Can anyone tell me how to care for the cover of our PWC? The herons like to sit on it when we have it moored at the lake:(. I need to remove bird droppings and it is also becoming kind of brittle. Is it safe to wash in a washing machine? Is there anything I can spray it with to make it last longer. It is only used in fresh water. Thanks!

Re: Yamaha Waverunner Cover

Its a more complicated answer than you think. Is this the OEM cover? How old is it? These answeres will tell me what fabric it is and then I can tell you how to clean it.

In most cases, the best thing to do on any cover is to try to clean the spot with a soft brissle brush and soapy water to the area. Do not use harsh detergents, something like Woolite is best, otherwise you end up washing off the DWR (water resistant treatment). The treatments to re-waterproof anything only work if the item it totally clean and free of dirt or suds. Otherwise the treatments attach themselves to that and they just wash away. The best treatment is probably 303 and I think you can buy it on iboats.com, I am not sure.

You can email me the kind of cover you have and I can better help you. terri@poppycompany.com

Re: Yamaha Waverunner Cover

I have the OEM Yamaha covers and they are about 6 years old and are not water proof any more. I wash them in the washing machine one at a time on a gentle cycle with very little detergent. They come out looking great. But like I said the waterproofing is long gone and I would suspect that if yours are still holding back the water, a spin in the washing machine would kill that.

Ha, ha, your right. Really it's the detergent, even just a little. Use woolite and NEVER stick it in the dryer.
