Motor is S250TXRU. Recently, the motor has stalled at idle. It will idle for 2 or 3 secs, then just stall. Doesn't cough, just stops. It will start again, but same result. Replaced the external filter seperator. Found on water, no water in the motor mounted filter seperator either. New plugs made no difference. Motor runs really rough and shakes between about 1200 and 1600-1700 rpm. After that smooths out nicely. Help is greatly appreciated!

hello
check the spark plugs, and plug caps. unscrew the caps if they are red and test with an ohmmeter. should be about 5k. check all fuel pump diaphrams for leakage. a small diaphram leak will cause unstable ide and high speed lean out. my tune up guide indicates this is a carb motor so nothing too fancy on it. test all the basics and post us again. :)

Replaced the plugs when the problem started with no improvement. Fuel pumps show no leakage. Dealer replaced all 6 last year - said there was no rebuild kit??? We are going to try disconnecting the fuel line and sucking directly from a 5 gallon tank to eliminate a contaminated fuel problem. Will let you know results - Thanks!

hello
try another dealer. that motor has 3 low pressue pumps mounted on the port side of the block. I usually just replace them because at the shop the labor rate is about 80 an hour and with parts and the time to rebuild them I can install them new for about the same money. yamaha does not make a "Kit" you have to buy both diaphrams and both gaskets seperately. its a japenese thing. check the trottle position sensor and the crank position sensor. you may have a yamaha dealer check it with the diagnostic light. at least that will save a lot of time chasing things that are not broken. it takes about 4 minutes to test with the "winky blinky" . the diagnostic light plugs into the engine harness at the oil level sensor. it can monitor all the sensors for any failures. usually wont tell me what is wrong but it will tell me what is not wrong thus saving me time chasing ghosts.
good luck and keep us posted

Re: Yammi 250 Stalls at Idle

Thanks again. From what you have told me , it seems I ought to have a shop manual for this motor. All the "Generic" ones I have ever used for other motors are way too basic for my liking. Is it possible for me to get a real shop manual somewhere? I have no problem purchasing the diagnostic light as well. For the cost of these motors and the chance of having it die 20 miles out, I think it is worth knowing the motor a bit more intimatly.
Mike
