Ive got some problems with my 2000 Four Winns 170 Horizen.

I have a 4.3 Vortec 4.3 Volvo SX 190hp.

I have removed, rebuilt and installed car engines, and my hardest by far was an 86 Fiero GT v-6, however I have never done a boat before.

What manual(s) do I need? Which are the best?
Do I need special tools?
Anything else I need to know whould be helpful.

I can't afford to have someone do this, and is why I am doing it myself.

Also. Hoe can I get more performance out fo this motor? I heard I need manifolds that will flow before I do anything to the motor. Will it be worth it trying to make it go faster on a budget? Or should i just rebuild it to stock.

Do yourself a favor, before you take apart the motor to pull take some pictures. When you go to put the new motor back together you will know just how that bracket goes back on or where that wire goes.

A SBC is a "small block Chevy" - a v-8 like a 305 (5 liter) or a 350 (5.7 liter). If I'm not mistaken a 4.3 liter engine is basically a 350 with two cylinders removed. The bore and stroke is the same.

Ah yes. I should have picked up on that. What about exhaust? I heard that doing anything to these motors doesn't matter becasue the factory exhaust limits flow. A boat tech told me I would have to get some after market exhaust manifols that let the motor flow more. Is this true? I can't find any after market manifolds for a 4.3. Is doing anything to it even worth it?
