Re: YatchTwin 3hp

Pete, Looks like a 1967 3hp. Take another look at the carb, especially the low speed idle circuit. Remove the low speed idle mixture screw and spray carb cleaner into the opening (seat), blow out with compressed air. The motor rev's and dies when you remove the choke because it leans out and is starved for fuel. Replace the low speed idle mixture screw. For an initial setting, lightly seat the needle and then back out (open) 1 1/2 turns, that should get it started. BTW, a carb kit would be a good idea.

Re: YatchTwin 3hp

PCV... You have a 1967 3hp Evinrude. It sounds like you have overlooked something in the carburetor, possibly a fixed brass high speed jet thta would be located in the center bottom portion of the float chamber.

Recheck the carburetor, then adjust it as follows.

(Carburetor Adjustment - Single S/S Adjustable Needle Valve)

Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

Re: YatchTwin 3hp

Thanks for the quick replys.

When I removed the carb I did clean the high speed jet in the bottom of carb. Tride to remove it as it looks like it should unscrew but it would not and I dont want to force it

Any idears about removing the leg as I would like to change the water pump.

Thanks
Pete
