Year Identification w/o Serial #

I just traded for a 1150 tower. If I was to guess I would say late seventies based on the ignition but thats just a guess. The serial number plate is gone, is there any identifiers that I can use to narrow down the year on this Old Merc? The cowl colors are red w/all anodized front plate and thunderbolt ignition. It definitly apears to be a step up in years from my 66' 1100.
Any help would be great.

Do you think that the cowling is original and that the engine inside is original to the cowling?

I do think it is all original I'll check this out. Thanks. I'm going to get it on the boat and cleaned up Today hopfully somthing will appear that will give it away.

I went and looked and there are no matches to the link you sent. The main cowling only mercury. the lower section (not sure what its call) that covers the midsection connection to the powerhead has to decals one says only 115 h.p. the other says 115 h.p. and direct 6 charge. I did may a mistake in the origonal post when I said 1150 it does not say 1150 anywhere only 115 h.p.


After a little looking on the website you linked I found a match. the motor is a 70 or 71
