Re: year needed please..

here's the first step before you ruin it, leg needs to be submerged 1/2 way. the water pump is not self priming, has to be submerged, and it high in the leg. here's 2nd

here's 3rd

dependable, it will out live you and me, if cared for. just sold a 1955 15hp. super great engines. laingsoutboards.com has most of the parts.

as in the past tashasdaddy you are full of help for the less educated. Thanks. Water pump not self priming eh?
Im assuming that means Only try to start it in the barrel.. Not with the hose attachment right? Do you recommend tearing it down and giving it a good cleaning before even trying, or just going for it when the weather warms up enough so it doesn't freeze in 15 minutes..(-2 with the wind chill in maine at the moment)

Re: year needed please..

the coils that old are known to be cracked. if it hasn't been run in a long time the points are probably corroded, can be filed and reset. total tear down no. you can do a compression and spark test, without starting. are you sure it's a '54. my manual only goes back to '55. point gap 0.020, plig j4j but believe to be j4c now, fuel 24:1. it does use the 2 line pressure tank. imho, don't change it. i don't usually recomment Clymer manuals but #00s-1 has been adequate for me on mine. like i said laingsoutboards.com has most everything you will need, without a complete rebuild. if you don't know the last time the impeller was changed do it. a lot of this you can do in the garage or basement. went out on the waverunner today. just a little chilly.

It's a 1954 according to this site http://www.marineengine.com/manuals/evinrude/
thankfully, the guy found the tank that goes with it. I didn't know conversion was an option.. Nice to know if i absolutely needed to. Waverunner Eh?.. Thanks for rubbing that in ;) Thanks again..
