Year of Mariner 5HP O/B (made in Japan) S/N 661L321401

I have a Mariner 5, made in japan, with S/N 661L321401. I've checked the Swedish website http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/mp/mar8.htm and its close to a 1979 (661-311876 - 661-317095). That year makes since because it came on a 1979 sailboat. But, the S/N does not quite match up. One, mine has an "L" instead of a "-" and the last 6 digits aren't in the range.<br /><br />Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Strange. Where do you live? <br />Anyway, your local dealer should be able to straighten this out for you.

Believe it's this one:<br />5 M 661-26311 - 661-38030 1976<br /><br />"L" is Long shaft!

The boat and engine are now in Maryland, but it came from Georgia. <br /><br />I thought too it might be a 1976, but my SN has 6 digits after the 661L rather than just 5. The L meaning longshaft makes sense though. <br /><br />Thanks for the info.
