Year of Mercury 115

Hello, new to forum and would appreciate help. Buying a boat with Merc 115hp and would like to know approx year. Don't have a serial number but it is 4 cyl. Cowling folds off in two halves not as one peice over the top and I am assuming it is an Aussie motor as I am buying it here. Have a pic of it if that is of help. Thanks, Jim

If it's an Aussie motor, the serial no will begin with an 8..<br />Mercs had a dark and light blue band with silver or white "Mercury" from 1979-1983, then in 1984 there was a Brown band. All the smaller HP had a one pce "Wrapper" type cover.Later 80'went back to Red band and 2 piece cowling was introduced.<br />Upload your pic here http://www.myfishingpictures.com/index.php
