Trying to help a friend here.

14002P

131068

does this engine have the slow function on it.
It won't throttle up and am going to do a carb job to see if this helps.

Was used last year one time. Has set mostly for two years.

Re: year of suzuki

That should be a 2002 140 hp engine. The first part of the serial number on Suzuki engines notes the model (horsepower) and the last two digits show the year of production. It is interesting to note that the year of production may not be the same as the year on the certificate of origin, which may indicated that it is a newer engine. In either case for the purposes of getting the right parts the beginning number you gave indicates it to be a 2002.

Thom

Re: year of suzuki

Sorry, Thom, but I must correct you. That is a 1991 DT140.

thanks guys 1991 sounds about right from what he has told me about it and when his father ran it in mo. before he died.
It won.t throttle up and we are going to do a carb job first. I have done the spark and compression ck and every thing is good there.

Re: year of suzuki

Lakensea,

Well, thanks! Live and learn. The numbering system had been explained to me that way, some time back, and it conformed to the numbering on my two engines (a 1989 DT-200 and the new DT-225) so I assumed it to be correct for all Suzukis. That's what I get for assuming. Thanks again - one more rumor dispelled and I get to go to the grave with one less bit of misinformation crammed into my head.

Thom
