Years old outboard cleaning question for me??

Can somebody reccommend a cleaning solution to clean the whiteish gunk off the motor down the shaft . It is some kind of hardened stuff that wont wash off very easily. Im not even sure what this is but it seems to accumulate on all motors. Ive tried everything but nothing seems to clean it off. Thanks

It is probably limestone dissolved by acid water where the motor is used.

Limestone is dissolved by carbonic acid, which exists when carbon dioxide is mixed with water, such as in so-called acid rain. So carbonated water will dissolve lime; vinegar will be faster.
