yellow lead from stator burnt

right where the connection is where the yellow lead comes out of the stator, is burnt. there are two yellow wires, but only one is burnt. what could this mean???

125 merc ELPTO 1999. Is there anyway to test it without taking off the flywheel. I don't have a puller.

You are going to have to pull the flywheel.Even if only one wire is burnt it still has to be replaced.I haven't seen this problem,maybe someone else has.<br />Make sure you tighten the battery cables with pliers .<br /><br />DHP

Is the burnt one also the one that goes to the regulator? If your reg shorts out it could toast the wire. If the copper of the wire is still intact you could slip a piece of heat-shrink tubing or fibreglass woven tubing over it. My concern would be the windings of the stator, a new one may be needed in the future.
