Survived the third major lay-off in my 14 years at my company. Glad to still be among the employed. It's tough watching friends that I've known for all those years have to go through that. :( It's worse being one of the people who knew who was getting sacked hours before it happened and having to look them in the eye throughout the day knowing what they were about to go through and not being able to help.

There's also that stunned funk that hangs over the place afterwards.

It ain't just Ford and GM, the little guys are getting hit too. Save a prayer tonight for the recently and soon to be unemployed and their families.

spots

ps: ChinaSux!

I agree on the ChinaSux! What will it take to get the manufacturing back in the USA??????
And - my heartfelt sympathies for the victims of "downsizing". I really try to make it a point to buy American, but man, it is hard to find any products made here anymore!

Re: Yet another bullet dodged.

great to hear ya dodged one, but why does china sux?
its not like the chinese developed the manufacuring technology. in fact for years and years china wanted nothing to do with the west. it could be that coperate greed sux as thats who moved the manufacturing and assymbly plants outconus.
seems, best I remember, about a week after NAFTA was signed smith corona shut down, sacked about 800 and moved south.
last year the state of north carolina lost a town when the textile mill shuttered and moved the equipment to the honduras. I installed a trim harness and relay set last week on a 98 merc EFI 150, relays had China, mexico and USA on the package and the harness was assembled in mexico. big difference in assembled and manufactured. that 30 million dollar mercury motor plant in china could not have actually been built by a solid US company like Brunswick now could it?
so its not china that sux its this global free trade. at least our president was smart enough to get the US a good deal on mangoes. romour has it a second black anchor plant is sceduled.
hope them boys in fun do lack can learn to eat fish heads and rice and use choppin sticks.
