I picked up my cable for my 1977 evinrude 70 hp outboard but had a hard time find a fit as the controller isnt a match to the motor. My original controller had plastic hook up on one end and a cable on the other. I tried this http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b7/reddog349/65_2.jpg because I thought a part removed that does so now I cant find anything . It works at the motor but not at the controller. Is it possible to cut the metal end to expose the cable ?Any suggestions????

What you need is what BRP calls the Long Life Cable. The core is exposed at both ends and casing guides would need to be added to fit the engine and the controller. What you have in the pic is called Snap In Cables. These were used on most 80's and above engines and controls.

Any J/Rude dealer should be able to fix you up.
