Hi all,

New to the forum.

I have an 87 force 85hp with Tilt and trim. (4 hose/lines unit).

I have a valvebody issue (previous owner stripped one of the hoses at the valve body and now it leaks, but here's my problem:

The motor is a newer API Unit (Model # PT-497NK), but this valve body at the bottom does not look like any of the ones I see out there for Force outboards?2012-03-21 18.19.15.jpg

Does anyone know what Valve body will fit this one? I am at a loss on this one and want to get this ironed out before the season starts...

Thanks a million!

in the late 90's mercury ran out of prestolite parts and started selling an oildyne conversion kit for 1976-1992 Force trim systems. That is what you have. The late 1990's replacement pump kit. The original oildyne motor has been replaced with an aftermarket but the pump and tubing is genuine mercury.

You do not have a valve body. underneath the motor is a pump. It is a squarish aluminum thing. The pump bolts onto an aluminum base called a manifold. on the side of the manifold is a distribution block with four ports drilled into it. That is what your adapter plate screws onto.

Your don't even want to bother looking for oildyne parts from mercury. They are expensive far beyond reasonable. I think I have one the distribution blocks that you need. pm me a better picture of yours. you can have it for postage if it is right.

Re: Yet another Tilt and trim issue (Looking for some expertise)

Thanks RRitt,

Thats an awesome offer. I will need to run by the storage yard and see how good of a picture I can get of the bottom side with my Android phone...

Then we can talk after I PM you the picture...

The return line from the Tilt Cylinder is leaking right oil right at the connection at the distribution block. causing it to leak down slowly when I tilt the motor etc. Got under there and it looks like it got stripped out and the guy I got it from decided to wedge in some rubber (Or some foreign substance) in the threads to attempt to seal it. (Worked for a while I suppose. Its always leaked down on me, but it has gotten bad enough that I can no longer live with it (Plus I smashed up my prop last time I was out because of it).

I wish I lived close to you, you know a ton about these motors and I can not find anyone around here that will touch one? Its kind wierd. My force has always been super reliable, why do boat mechanics hate them so much?

I'm assuming I am going to have to replace the Connector at the hose end as I am sure its all mucked up too. I have the flaring tools etc to do this, but is this a special thread or should I be able to find this size at the Auto parts store?

Appreciate your help and also for equipping all of us on here with the "Knowledge". I've been lurking on the site for a while and quite frankly the good people like you is why I finally broke down and joined the forum...

Thanks
Jamie

Not a problem. PM me your details and I can send you a check? Or Paypal. However you'd like.

I really appreciate your help on this... (Thank you for helping me keep the O'l Gal on the water for another year).
