Yet another tilt and trim question...

I have an 88 Imperial ASI with a Mercruiser 120 I/O. I am having problems trying to figure out why I can't get my tilt and trim to work properly. The hydraulic motor is running but it will not move down. But moves up just fine. PLus the tilt and trim control only have three buttons with four writings on them. Up, Up, In and Out. I'm trying to figure out how to work this control and why I can't get the unit to go down. I would appreciate any help from anybody.

I can't remember which but for up or down, you need to press two buttons at the same time for it to work

Sometimes they need help, they get corroded. While you or a friend have the down button depressed, apply a foot on top and push down, it should go down. The trim cylinders are much more powerful going up than going down....J

That's just it, there is no down button. There's an Up, Up/IN and Out button.

Get some one to put there foot down....heh...One button will usually bring the drive down.......Play with it, unless it's totally wired wrong it will work.... There's only a few combiations so............ My guess is push the bottom one...........J

it seems that there are a couple of diff. trim switchs merc made. that's why i asked what color the bottons are. anyways, the ones i'm seeing that are dash mount with three buttons. push the in only to lower. also, only in fwd or neutral. <br />one final note. the button operation could be modifyed. mine is by someone who had it before me. so then it could be anything. mine operates with the middle button for up, bottom button for down. top button is inop..

mine has 3 buttons,... this is old school, i think it's the same as what you're describing<br /><br />to get it to go up i have to hold the middle and upper button<br /><br />to get it to go down, i only have to use the lower button.<br /><br />I think maturbater is on the right track, put some weight on the drive while you go down, maybe have someone stand on it, <br /><br />also could do well to check for obstructions<br /><br />or you can just pretend you have a jet drive
