i know this is some wha of a revolving door question, but i have searched everywhere to find parts for my motor and cant seem to find the right ones. my engine id plae has the model no. 115799s and the serial no. j0003612. that is exactly as it appears on the i.d. plate. there are no errors in the typing of it, and i am not crazy and reading it wrong. the best i can come up with it a match of 115799, wich works out to be a 77 115. but this is not a 77. the power pack is different (at least from the pic in seirra's catlouge). some one please help. i want to get this motor runnig and on the back of the new boat. here is a link to a pic of the id plate @ photobucket.com. thanks for any and all help.

Re: yet another year question!!!!!

How many power packs are on your 115? The 1977 only has one and is configured the same as all 1973-1977 115 models.

The model number given is for a 1977 115HP motor. The engine number would be on the welch plug at the top of the block and may not be the same as that which is on the motor plate on the port transom bracket.

Copy the following link to your browser without the quotation marks. It will take you to the BRP parts manuals, which includes your motor:

Many of the parts have been superseded, but it will give you a starting point. If you enter the original part number at the top of the home page at ishopmarine.com,
their program will return the updated part number, as well as the aftermarket listings in many cases.

Re: yet another year question!!!!!

so helpfull. it now comes up as a 1979 115. so now that i can find engine parts, will i use the 77 model to search power tilt/trim stuff, or will i still use the 1979 parts that come up.

Re: yet another year question!!!!!

The 1977 midsection is quite different from the 1979 and will not fit the 1979 T&T. Is the Tilt unit motor that you have mounted inside of the Transom brackets [1979], or outside [1977]?

It is possible that the plate is off another motor. If you look closely the plate is held on with two very small hex nuts.

28 years - stuff happens!

I think you are lucky. I like the 79 better. It is easier to find parts, too.

BTW, the parts manuals can be downloaded to MS Excel.

Just use a right mouse click on the parts list page. You can copy the diagram and paste that into Excel as well.

Re: yet another year question!!!!!

yeah, i am lucky. i had a friend find out that my transom/floors/stringers were rotted in my 15' "jacuzzi" and told me that he had a 17'8 tri hull/trailer/motor that he was trying to get rid of. he gave all three of them to me. yes GAVE:0d:)he had bought the boat/motor/trailer from another friend for the motor (a 96 merc 150 for $800). the motor has been sitting for about three years, and needed some work when it was put in storage. it had no spark on one bank was what i was told. a little tlc, and she'll be ready for the sea in no time. compression is good, foot oil was in near new condition. the prop is preaty beat up, but with about 4 to 500 bucks, she'll be a damn fine machine. I've just been trying to figure out the reason for my parts snaffu, and it looks to be solved now. i also put it in gear and spun it over in both directions to check the gears. all seamed well

could you give me an opnion on sierra's electrical products. i used em on my 70, and havent had any problems, but it's the only boat have ever owned.

Re: yet another year question!!!!!

My feeling is that Sierra is a fine company and that the quality of the products that I have tried has improved since the merger with Teleflex Morse. On specific parts like the water pump impellers and thermostats, I still use OMC/BRP parts. I have had good luck with every Sierra order that I have placed with Iboats.

I'm fairly familiar with the motor that you have, so send an email if you hit a snag. Address is connected to my user name.
