Here's the story:
my 1980 boat has a few really soft spots on the floor. I probably won't use it another season after this summer. I was thinking to get me through this season I would cut out a piece of wood and carpet it and lay it over the soft areas. Kind of a "T" shaped piece because floor is soft in aisle way of seats. I don't think the boat is worth redoing the floor. What do you think?

it is a bandaid, think how much extra weight you are going to be pushing with rotted wood and wet foam. remember that is your family, and friends, you are jeopardizing in an unsafe boat.

That boat maybe unsafe. You need to investigate further, remove the floor, and the saturated floatation foam, check the stringers and transom. If those are OK, replacing the floor or deck as it is commonly referred to is not that big of a job.

Have a great day,

Rob.

If it is soft in the isle way probably soft under the seats as well. It really isn't all that bad of a job and probably worth it to do so you can check the rest of the boats condition while the deck is off. You mentioned you wouldn't use it again after this season what are you going to do with it? If you sell it with a known rotted floor and unknown rest of it you probably wont get much out of it. But if the floor was solid and you could verify that the rest of it was solid may be able to get alot more out of it. If you do decide to redo the deck look on here for all the info on how to do it. All the knowledge you will ever need right here.
