You can tell it is Spring Time . . .

As I browse through the Craigslist boat listings, which I do frequently, I am now seeing boat ads come back on for all of the boats that did not sell last year. So, it is a sure sign of Spring in the boat market.

I have noticed a few that were for sale throughout all of last year, now re-listed at the same price. If they did not sell then, I wonder what makes the seller think it will sell this year for the same price :noidea:

Spring market isn't that good.

Especially since they have probably sat uncovered through another long winter. I think Forest Gump says it Best "Stupid is as Stupid Does"

The ones that get me are the guys that bump the ad all winter long. There's a guy near me with 3 ads for homemade wood boats going on two years, bumps every week or so with the same asking price and blurry pictures.

The best thing about craigslist is that anyone can put anything on it, the worst thing about craigslist is that anyone can put anything on it.

On the other hand, the buyer who did not buy in the fall and pay to store the boat all winter has saved that cost, and the seller has carried that cost (plus taxes, insurance, etc.) and winterizing.
Not all used boats on CL are neglected and not everyone has a free place to store a boat (and inside your garage isn't free; you pay that rental every month you write a mortgage check.)

Then again we have a "frequent flyer" on our CL that has a fuzzy picture of the boat on a trailer shoved back in weeds higher than the boat with just part of it peeking out. Any wonder why the ad is still running? All he has to do is drag it out to the yard, snap a picture, and shove it back in there. or the pictures with trash laying around in the boat. A picture is worth 1000 words and some of them aren't so good.

There are a few CL Ad posters in my area that keep 2-3 duplicate ads running and continually bump them, so that they are always on the top of any search list. Even with that, they do not seem to sell.

i guess they don't understand . . . Price + Condition sell boats. You need both from a buyer's perspective to sell.

Its called supply and demand. Same reason gas pump prices start rising just prior to the start of the driving season!
I used to rush out until the last night before xmas to pick something up for my wife in Macy's. You should see how they used to jack up the prices of women's gifts. Same for boats at the start off the summer season. But its tough to test drive a boat in the middle of the winter. When you finally test drive it after ice out you find the boats crap and by that time the good boats are already gone. Tried this for several seasons and finally said the hell with it and went for a new one which I ordered in March/April!

Try looking at the Chicago CL boat ads and you will constantly see 3 or 4 dealers daily posting their whole inventory. At times it takes up whole pages!!! Many of which also just use stock pictures. How exciting.

Another one was a guy from Mich. that has his boat posted daily 9-10 times in a row.

Also have said this before but the ones I love are the ones with 3-4 pictures of the boat all covered up. What's the point?
