We just got back from signing the contract on the house to be built. My wife got a call from her boss; she?s been laid off. Good thing it happened now rather that after construction. We would have lost everything. She worked in the trucking industry. I think that explains it.

Ouch that sucks. A co-worker left my company (a blue cross health insurer) for a new job at another company that had crappy benefits but much better pay. She decided they would use her husbands insurance. Less than a week after she started the new job, her husband got let go from his job and she found out she was pregnant!!

The company I worked for went out of business the day we closed on our house. Scary time. Ended up taking a job I didn't like for a few years but we got through it. Best of luck to y'all.

Re: You got to laugh sometimes

I've been in manufacturing for the last 25 years in New York. Week after I purchased my home boss confided in me he can't make payroll. He folded up.Had about $200 to my name and a $900 mortgage. Got thru that. Two years later, wrapped my daughter in a pink blanket to bring home from the hospital (6 weeks premie) and got my own pink slip 4 weeks later. Got thru that. Wife has always been stay at home MOM. Two years ago, slapped braces on the two kids and got slapped with a layoff. Got thru that. Now I changed careers a month ago to run the marine engineering laboratories at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) 25 years after graduating there. Fortunate to take what I've learned in a dying industry and make a go at a revived industry with a new generation heading out to take on the struggle. The point is we all get slapped around a bit while trying to get established, but we endure and take pride when looking back on our accomplishments during the hardest times. Enjoy the day, your health, each other, and someday soon that new house will be there!!
Good luck....
