I had mine today! :(

Was pulling a tube, went to turn and give it some throttle and it just revved up. Dropped it down to idle when I heard it, thought it was just cavitation, was in idle still pulling him. Went to open it back up, and just free revved.

It's either a spun prop or something in the L/U. Was really really hoping for spun hub, but it's looking more and more like the L/U is toast :( :( :(

Anyways, we actually just floated along for a good while and relaxed and talked(had some friends on the way with their boat already) and a very nice guy came up in an absolutely beautiful boat and gave me a tow back to the dock.

The one and only time, was 1985?

Accidentally fell against the shifter in reverse, kicked the motor up hard enough to hit the splashwell, pop off the cowling, and break the glass float bowl on the lower carb. (1962 Johnson 75 hp)

Got towed in by my cousin.

Glad you got a tow.

My one and only time was in 2002. Just left Starved Rock Marina, heading for the Lock & Dam, when the impeller let go. Luckily, it was a boat club trip, so another member tied me alongside his 36' Hatteras, and I changed the impeller in the lock as we were being let down. Drove it the 65 miles back to Peoria after that, no problems.

Knock on wood, haven't needed a tow yet but I do take many spares and plenty of tools with too.

Broke and replaced 3 props before learning the lake. Luckily, I never had a problem finding a tow...boaters are some of the best people I know!

First time?? HAH! It's a boat, I'm on 5 or 6, got sea-tow from a ford loving neighbor (I'm a chevy guy) for x-mas as a joke and used it weeks later for the first time; thanked him and have renewed my subscription every year since then! Had a problem where I kept going through coils...ended up being bad wires...thankfully since then haven't had to be towed in....in my boat at least. Did almost sink a friends jet ski, damn cooling line came off the pump and started filling the hull. And from my experiences, anyone I see that needs a lift I try to help, I just make them promise to do the same.

Re: Your first time stuck out in the water!

The first and only time so far was in September 2007. I had taken my 3 girls out on Clarks Hill lake while their mother was on a moms weekend away in Chicago. We had a nice afternoon cuising, tubing and wakeboarding and were headed in to the ramp when we hit a submerged object and broke the bottom off the outdrive. We had been running 30 mph about a 1/4 mile off shore in 30 feet of water and never saw any obstruction. It was about a mile to the ramp and there was a boat getting ready to launch but no one else around. I was hoping that they would hurry up and launch and possibly give us a tow in but not much was happening so we broke out the paddles. It took us quite a while to get to the ramp. A 20 foot bowrider doesn't paddle as well as a canoe. First we paddled closer to shore where I could pull the boat with a rope and then paddled and pulled all the way to the dock. No one else came by in that 45 minutes or so and the boat on the ramp was still there. I roped the boat onto the trailer and asked the other boaters about what was going on. They told me that as they were launching, their outboard fell off and they had to retrieve it.

Re: Your first time stuck out in the water!

First time out with the boat. I had rebuilt the carbureators and done quite a bit of other work. Warmed the boat up nice and slow, putted around the no wake zone, then gently brought it up on plane. Rounded a bend and it started spitting and sputtering and then died. Messed with it and it wouldn't start and then noticed what looked like a bolt laying in the bilge. It ended up being the high speed jet from one of the carbs. Popped it back in and we were back on our way. I know you're not supposed to, but I now use just a little dab a Permatex 2 on the threads now. :D

Engine coupler failure. I've been stranded twice for the same reason, once had to be towed 62 miles at Lake Powell. (OUCH!) Thy motor is coming out to change that one.

Re: Your first time stuck out in the water!

Spun the hub on the prop a few years ago. Thought that I had blown the outdrive. Got towed in, then discovered it was a prop issue that I could have fixed it with the spare prop I carried on the boat. Live and learn.
