Z150TXRZ Shift Position Switch Bypass?

I have a 2001 Z150TXRZ HPDI I am having some problems with. I bought a boat that came off the trailer on the road and damaged some of the engine components. So far I have pulled the power head and changed the mid section, the lower cowling, upper cowling, oil pump, and a few broken sensors. I have spend hours chasing wiring diagrams in the service manual soldering wires that were broken in the accident (about 50 wires). I finally got the boat all back together and am having the same issue I have seen other people talk about, no spark on 2 and 3 cylinders. I have thesed continuity of the shift position switch and it seems to be working fine. Is there any other thing that would cause it to drop 2 and 3?. I tried to unplug the switch and also bypass it with a paperclip and neither way will it spark on these 2 cylinders. Any ideas?

no way to bypass it.
however make sure you dont have it confused with the shift cut switch.
if the ECU sees an in gear position VIA the shift POSITION switch AND a crank signal it locks the engine into 4 cyl operation, period until the next key cycle.
if the shift position switch never tells the ECU it just shifted into an in gear position it locks the engine into 4 cyl operation below about 1500 and 2 cyl operation above 1500.
dont confuse shift position with nuetral safty switches.

Re: Z150TXRZ Shift Position Switch Bypass?

Thanks Rodbolt! Does this motor have a shift cut switch? I think I got it figured out last night. First time I drove it running on all 6. I was suprized the power that 150 puts out. The part the shift position switch mounts to has a crack in it and was letting the switch push away a little without tripping it. I found if I crossed the terminals going to the ecu from the shift position switch simulating that is was in nuetral with the key off, then start it, then uncross the terminals it will hit on all 6. I guess I will order that part and a new switch today. Thanks for your help.

from what I can see on the parts diagram, no the 2001 Z motors did not use the shift cut switch.
without looking at it thats all I can say.
but the shift position must work as designed or ya get locked on how many cylinders spark.
