Zephyr Series TachometerGauge 3" Did i wire wrong ?

Installed a Rpm Guage along with my new used 1999 Johnson 115. I took some pics ignore the red wire i used the wire for the light on the gauge.
The purple and white wires i attahed to one post the neg/black wire to the other. I also conected the harness. When i turn the key on i get a slight jump of the meter and then it drops right down.

I forgot to also note that the the bottom light for low oil, hot, check engine all work when key is on and then go off like they should.

If you are using the red wire to feed dash lights,you dont need the purple on the termial.Purple is 12v key on.The white wire is for trim sender doesnt need to be on there at all.
