Zerk fitting in stringer exhaust housing

Has anyone ever got the grese gun stuck on the zerk fitting in the exhaust housing. this is not a good thing. I could not get that gun off of there for any thing. I finally had to drop down the lower drive unit so I could get to it. Then I ended up prying on it so hard that it pulled the fitting right out of the bearing housing. OOPS. Is there a way to fix this. Wondering if it will be all right for this season. I put some silicone ofer the hole for now. could I wait till winter the drill it and tap it for a larger fitting. But this time I will make sure I extend the fitting so it is on the outside of the exhaust housing. Oh yea I forgot to tell you that after I broke it I found out that the end of the grease gun is adjustable. D@#! It.
