I have a 1998 Wellcraft 24ft coastal with a1998 Johnson 225 HP E225TXECS. 2 questions ????
Can anyone direct me to where the zincs would be and how many there are. I located 2 so far 1 on the transom bracket another on the front (or really in the middle) of the lower unit.
2. I went on line what's the difference with zinc or aluminum?

Thanks for any answers in advance.

Different anodes work better in different conditions of what metal or combination of metals are to be protected and what salinity you will need to protect from.

Note that pollutants can alter the equation.

I was Navy... we always used Zinc. We tended to dock in brackish water....

NEVER MIX Zinc and Aluminum Anodes on the same vessel.
  • Zinc Alloy Anodes = Salt water only
    • Not recommended for use in fresh water
    • Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-18001K)
  • Aluminum Alloy Anodes = Salt or Brackish water
    • Not recommended for use in fresh water
    • Proven to last longer than zinc due to increased capacity
    • Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-24779(SH))
  • Magnesium Alloy Anodes = Fresh water only
    • Not recommended for use in salt or brackish water
    • The only alloy proven to protect your boat in fresh water

You found the two on the motor. Anodes are pretty common on trim tabs if keep in a slip

Zinc for salt, aluminum for brackish.
I run 60% brackish, 40% salt. Change from zinc to aluminum 2 years ago. So far so good. Not as much erosion
