A guy stopped me at the ramp two days ago and said that I was missing the zinc plates ( I think thats what he said, or called them). Maybe annodes? Can some one elaborate on this for me.

I have a Alpha One. He noticed some corrosion on my out drive and the prop and said the zinc plates or whatever will stop this from happening. can someone explain what i need.

Re: Zinc Plates?

If your zinc anodes (or magnesium which is better for fresh water) have worn down or are gone altogether, your outdrive will corrode fairly quickly. Check to see that they are there, they will be bare metal grey in colour in contrast to the black of your drive.

Re: Zinc Plates?

They're called Zinc Sacrificial Anodes, designed to corrode Before other parts of your motor. Most motors have several, the zinc trim tab fin under the ventilation plate, another in the area of the motor bracket near the bottom/outside of transom, sometimes on the sides of the lower unit below the water level, others maybe Inside the motor where they're not visible without some disassembly. These "Zincs" are very important, especially in saltwater usage. Not very expensive, easy to put on and great insurance against corrosion! Good Luck
