I have a 2001 Merc 4.3L EFI with Alpha Drive. Needed to change out zincs. Guy at the counter gave me five zinc anodes. A flat one for the upper Alpha Drive, one over the hydraulic connector box, two for the pistons and one, not so obvious as to where it goes. It's the Quicksilver Anode 806105Q1. Web says it's for the bearing carrier. Manual shows a bearing carrier behind the propeller DEEP inside the Lower Unit Housing. Is this where I'm supposed to place this Zinc?? How do you get into that? I pulled off the propeller nut, tab washer, spline washer and propeller (btw, didn't find a continuity washer behind the spline washer) and all I see now is a thrust hub. Now what? Anyone have a clue? Am I even going in the right direction with this? Thanks!

The anode you speak (#32 in the picture below) bolts to the carrier (#31) On eithe side of the carrier. Shown by the blue lines.
If your carrier doesn't have the drilled parts in the carrier, then you don't need that anode.
Do you have a SN for your outdrive?

Thanks for replying Don. The Drive's Serial# OL981938 1.62R Gear Alpha 1
I went outside and looked closely- and yes, the anode is behind the thrust hub. I completely missed it. As designed, is the thrust hub supposed to just sit on the prop shaft and slide right off... or is it supposed to be tight and unyielding? Looks like I'm going to have to go out and get a slide hammer attachment and tap this thing loose to get it off the propeller shaft. The prop shaft moves back and forth about a 1/4"- that within tolerances?
