Zodiac valve

I have a Zodiac Zoom that sat in a garage for 1.5 years, deflated. Prior to that, never an issue with deflation. I've inflated it in my garage and after 3 days, it is losing air. I have pulled the two valves and not knowing what I'm looking for to troubleshoot, they appear 'OK.'

I think I have my air leak narrowed down-I think. When I unscrew or screw the valve cap on each valve (2), I can hear some air. This happens when about half way screwing it down or half way screwing it off. This happens on each valve.

Is the problem in each valve or is this a natural thing and I am way off base?

Thanks

Re: Zodiac valve

If rubber diaphragm is warped and not inmaculate flexible sitting against valve body will eventually lose lots of air...those flaps are cheap.

Re: Zodiac valve

bushwood,
The 2846/2847 valbe insert and valve cap are a two-stage set-up. With only the insert in, there will be air seeping thru. It is designed to stop seeoing when the second stage (the valve cap with gasket) is screwed on. In fact, the pressure gauge that Zodiac offers relies on that seepage with the cap off to measure pressure in the tube.

If no leaks after valve insert and cap is installed properly and tight, then the valve is not the issue. Hyper-inflate the boat and spray with a sopay water solution to find the leaks. Start in the valve area, then work your way in one direction arund the boat. Look for bubbles.
