this is what the zoom 350 looks inside my trunk. Look at the street no damn parking.

New topic: registering a zodiac in NY!!!
Holy crap this is one of the hardest things I had to do. I think its easier for a convicted criminal to register a gun then a boat in ny. So i go to DMV (one of the worst things everyone goes through some point in their life) wait for 2 hours till my ticket gets called.... finally they call my ticket, i bring in the brown boat form, title from zodiac and looking forward to registering my boat.

...DMV LADY (MOST RUDE PERSON EVER.. MORE TEETH SUCKING THEN IN A XXX MOVIE) "U DONT HAVE ALL YOUR FORMS, U NEED BILL OF SALE FROM ZODIAC, YOU NEED ALL KINDS OF FORMS". I TELL THE LADY "I BOUGHT THIS BOAT IN AMERICA FROM IBOAT" ..SHOWED HER MY INVOICE.. HER " no you are still missing forms". At this point I'm so angry and upset at the same time. called iboat for the necessary paperwork, They will ship it out asap. Now i miss 4th of july fishing and not only have to give nyc money to register my boat so they can hire more nasty employees. Oh and i have to pay taxes on the boat NY tax is like 9% so 9% of 1200 dollars is about 110 dollars plus a registration fee!!!

My friend,

You need to come down here to go boating, nobody will crucify you with any paper, joking apart, when you've done with all involved paper work and related boating issues right before Titanic is launched to sea; all your frustration will disappear near inmediately once combo is nicely cruising NYC waterways. Internet is real slow, could not open the pics, will check them latter.

Happy Boating

come on man really?? Titanic?? oh ok i get it now (titanic meaning made in france haha) guess i should have gotten something made in USA. oh forgot to mention i have to pay them 9% tax on the boat. If anyone ever thought of coming to live in NYC, forget about it run while you can and as soon as i find a decent job in florida im gone might even throw a bag of stool at the dmv

In Spain I had much more fun to register mine.
They wanted me to pay V.A.T. twice for a boat purchased in UK (where I paid V.A.T.) because it was manufactured in China.
Not to mention zone registering and VHF license. They insisted in not approving a VHF waterproof homologed model, and wanted me to purchase a much more expensive distress GPS model - which was not homologed yet! But man I do am used to that stuff, they cannot stop me with bureaucratic "barricadas". I had it registered and legally. You just need to be more boring than them, and prepare a lot of legal papers before going to the battle.

BOAT = Break out another thousand. NYC = It was your turn and DMV in Brooklyn during a hot summer day is close to living hell. The tooth-sucking employee is the guardian to Hades.

However, if you take a Confucian view of things - a hard journey must mean great rewards at the end. Additionally, I would not throw a bag of stool (?) or stools at someone. This will most likely end up with you on a viral video + jail time and legal fees. And no one wants to be in the slammer with thugs in "Crooklyn."

Registering is one of those things best done by the dealer.
You still have to contact new york DEC
You really shoud practice inflating and deflating the boat be fore you go to the water

The whole registration thing is no fun.
There is so much nobody tells you
The reason I brought up DCS is because there is also a fishing license for the boat

Permits and Licenses - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

The license for the boat is suppose to cover everyone on the boat

Read it carefully. Depending on where he fishes he doesn't need a license. If it is Saltwater he likely will not and since that is primarily what we have easy access to here in NYC, he likely doesn't. that whole fishing license fiasco was killed and buried but the site still contains misleading double talk to get the unsuspecting fisherman/ boater.

Weimed, this is getting almost weird. i just registered my New Saturn today!! (and re-registered my old Quicksilver). I too had some difficulty but i went to the DMV near Rector ST. Battery Tunnel Area. I always have good luck there. Got in 10' to 3:00 out by 3:40!! My invoice was a little flakey to but apparently they expect the internet purchased dinghies to be that way because the clerk "understood". No w I really want to know where you boat/ fish. We might even be neighbors. I'm in the general vicinity of Midwood. Not too far from Sheepshead bay/ Jamaica Bay, where i do all of my boating.

Nice! I am in sheepshead bay, tried launching from Floyd Bennett, park rangers started busting my chops. They said I have to go to breezy point in the rock aways to launch. Tell u honestly it might be just as much to launch at kings plaza marina. I really want to know where you go fishing, and your secret launch points?

Just got my boat on Monday, launched at Floyd benet field first time and my pin on the throttle handle just broke off, had to paddle back. Was only in the water for 15 min and spent about 2 hours assembling and disassembling

Man that really sucks. I launch in Floyd Bennet all the time (by the old airplane ramp). Funny they gave you a hard time. I haven't gone out from there this year yet. I launched by the North Channel Bridge the last 2 times I went out. You go to crossbay and take it til you cross the bridge, as soon as you've crossed the bridge you go left into that parking lot and launch from there. The kayakers launch there too. The only thing is you are way in the back at that point (Really close to JFK). We have to meet up!! I'm working on things to make the assembly/ disassembly process go faster. Have a few tricks already. I am always looking for new places to launch but most only take bigger boats, kayakers, or are expensive to launch from. I have a youtube video of my Memorial day outing. Shows the area of north channel bridge, my boat (older one) and me. I don't know how to embed a link. I'll try to figure it out or else just give the site info. Will edit this to reflect the same.

Yes, fixed the pin. Its funny I actually typed in inflatable boat Jamaica bay and watched the videos about two weeks ago. did not realize it was you. but yes we gotta go fishing!!!! also started building the cart Ronald was talking about. I went with 1 1/2 pvc pipe I felt its to much to carry as it is so trying to minimize the load and weight. Looks promising and will post the pic once the dolly is completepicture041.jpgpicture042.jpgpicture043.jpgpicture044.jpg

Wow that's so funny you came across my vids! I try to get out often but as I am getting older (may not seem it but closing in on 50 fast!) I need to find ways to make the trip easier. Seems we have the same general idea with the cart.. I am trying to do it with a cargo carrier. My nephew used to come out more often but with college and his popularity.. not so much these days. Lol. Have you ever gone outside of the bay? I am really considering doing a close to shore trip out to coney island flats. Would be nice to have a like-minded accomplice:D Also any other places you've launched. I would also like to find a spot by Smithtown bay or City Island. Orchard Beach has a Launch but it is Kayak only:grumpy:

Let me know when you are gonna be out on the bay again. I work Mon-fri and generally have weekends off (except OT). I also have every other Friday off (hence the registration yesterday) unless i'm doing OT. Will be nice to see someone with a set up like mine. Tons of kayakers, jet skiers and small boaters but rarely ever see blow up boaters other than the ship to shore dinghy crew, lol

the broken handle trip was my first time on my own rig. Went out with my friend on his bayliner once but I barely ever talk to him. I used to fish off the pier for years catching 10-15 porgies per trip. I recently started fishing off the pier (10 years later I am 28 now) and got tired of catching seaweed watching the boats about 100 yards out pulling in stripers and fluke. I decided to see what boats will cost me. after seeing marina charging 3+ thousand per year I said the hell with that. Started looking at youtube liked what I saw then found my way to iboat. 1-2weeks later I bought an engine and an inflatable and went out first time july 4th with bad results. Was gonna go out on Tuesday but looks like its going to rain. I found one ramp in staten island and one in jersey, have it on my other pc ill post it when I get on it. as for the trip, wouldn't mind doing it as long as we have a marine radio and a bilge, haha. as per city island im not sure how clean it is.

Re: ZOOM by zodiac 350s inside my trunk and registering boat nightmares

I hear you on the safety items. I have a marine radio, gps, airhorn, whistle, life vests, swiss army knife, bilge pump (electric but i'm repairing the valves on it) and a back up (2.5 hp) outboard. As I go out and think, hey "X" item might makes this more fun/ easier, I do some overtime to purchase it if I can. My toy is my hobby and addiction all in one. I see the guys over in Europe on that other Rigid Inflatable Boat forum use their boats in much more demanding environments so I figure I should be safe near the Coney Island flats. I think the Staten Island launch you are referring to is near Arthur Kills. Not sure where the one in Jersey is... either way it sounds like Great Adventure, lol.

Funny you were thinking about going out on Tuesday. I was contemplating Monday as I took the day off for something else that fell through. Haven't decided one way or another yet. Would like to use the new boat but haven't mounted the dolly wheels yet (though it shouldn't take TOO long to do).

Wow two outboards is a lot to carry for one man, I'm still trying to figure out how to build light weight aluminum floors. When I went out I carried everything by my self and it felt like a hassle. I think it will be easier once I build my dolly and not have to carry my boat 50 ft on my back then the same with the floor boards and everything else. Can't wait to see the difference the dolly makes, I am hoping the dolly will hold everything on it including the fully inflated boat with floorboards, outboard, cooler, Rods and the rest of my junk. I see what u mean a 2.5 emergency ob but I think a 45lb minn Kota riptide would get u back At we'll not as fast but I'm sure 2mph it will do. Could also use the minn Kota on lakes where has ob is not allowed

Re: ZOOM by zodiac 350s inside my trunk and registering boat nightmares

I have dolly wheels on my boats... they are an absolute must (well for me at least). I take everything out of the van. Inflate the boat put on the engine and roll everything to the sea. In a way the boat becomes its own dolly! I only make additional trips for fuel tank and accessories and sometimes when I'm traveling light I can make everything in one trip (loaded boat) or 2 trips most. Will definitely need to show you some of the tricks. I carry more stuff with me but it makes each trip easier than it would otherwise be. As for the trolling motor it was a toss up. Although the motor may be a little lighter than my 2.5hp (weighs 26#) when you add in the sizable battery you are going to need to feel comfortable you have juice on tap, the weight difference is diminished or in favor of the outboard. The little outboard has it's own tank built in, but in an emergency I could also use whatever remaining fuel I have left in the main tank, assuming running out of fuel is NOT the reason for the emergency. Did that once about 800 yards from shore... against current... it's why i have the back up outboard now, lol. I keep reminding myself that all the little expenditures haven't added up to even 5 months mooring fees, lol.
