`Bondo, Junk 351 Question.....

I saw the recent post about the junk 351 Merc Ford you have ....
I recently purchased a 351 to repower my boat...
It ain't a Merc though.....
& my existing set up is an 888....
So most of the stuff will fit, but
It seems the 351 Mercs are way more rare than the 302's ....
I know Boomie has dibs, but if can't use the parts, (top end stuff) carb, esp carb bracket, hoses etc, I can....
If ya help me out I promise not to vote for Hillary in 2008 .........JK

Are you trying to go to a 4bbl? Do you have a 4 bbl cast iron mani? If so, Bond-o's setup is a 2bbl. It may have the same cable bracket as your 888 2bbl.

It also appears that the 2bbl bracket attaches to the narrower rear two bolts of a carb base adaptor, not to the wider spread on the rear two manifold stud holes.

I'm trying to get a look at my 888 setup but the boat is across town at a friends and he is off skiing this week, plus I don't want to go unwrap the boat in this stinking rain.

Yep, I'd like to get some more speed out of the old girl, & the 302 is getting tired....
It will do 32-35 or so depending on the water.....
I haven't done a compression check but it is 34 years old!
The Sea Ray 220SRV is heavy & I would consider it under powered even brand new with a 302/188....
So, I want to upgrade to a 351 in the hopes of getting some more bottom end & 42 mph or so.....

Anyway, crap!, I don't know if it has a two or four barrel intake....
I didn't know that a 351 could have a two barrel....
In the pic it was covered with tape to keep shiite out....
I don't have my paws on it yet, so I ain't sure....
If I have to get a different manifold, so be it....
I am FWC so I don't necessarily need to go with cast iron......
I'll know more when I pick it up........JK

You will never be happier after you have built your 351. One of the great motors. The only issue is the cost of everything. Like you said they are rare and the the more rare a motor is the more money they cost. But after running a 302, when its done you will never be happier.

Yep, with that hunk of concrete you'd definitely would love the 351w. I think the 20 ft SeaRays were underpowered with 302/305's

You have a San Juan Engineering FWC? That's what I have and the brackets were drilled for both 302 and 351. Should be an easy swap.

As for the carb, I think most 351's were 2 bbl. I think a nice 600 cfm 4 bbl Holley would be the cat's meow for that 351. If you keep it in the primaries Algore would still love you.

I would take everything from the intake up....
Hoses, shift-plate, carb, & the engine side harness....
Shoot me a PM, i'd gladly kick some cash for the parts & shipping......

It is a 2 bb carb and the bracket attaches to the carb base plate mounting studs.

I was told it was a 351. The boat has been sitting here for a couple of years. It was abandoned by a previous renter.:|

I dont see any numbers on the engine so I can't be sure. I do know that the 351 intakes are wider than the 302 intakes. This intake measured across the intake from center of mounting molt hole, to center of mounting bolt hole on opposit side is 9-1/4 inches. It really looks narrow for a 351.

It's a 351 RP, the 302 is 7 1/4 ctc on the opposing bolts.

Here's the pictures of what I've got,..... I don't know that it's a 351, but was Told so.... I just found Boomer's reply to my PM,+ haven't wandered back out,+ Measured it.....Yet...

It's got Frozen block syndrome,...... I sent the Motor Mounts,+ Flywheel Cover to Dennis Moore about 5 or 6 years ago,..... He Stiffed me for the $40.00 Shipping,+ the Donation to the Shop Fund,.... Haven't heard a word from him Since....... I guess he must be a Liberal Too.....

This thing is going to become a Mooring Block,.... So Whatever you See is available to Any of you Guys who want anything.......
'Course,... Boomer has 1st dibbs......
