Re: `Bondo, Junk 351 Question.....

Hey Haut,...... I just wandered back outback in this Blizzard,+ had another Look,.......

It measures 9, 1/4" accross the Intake,.... Must be a 351......

I guess I sent the T-stat Housing to Dennis as well as the other stuff mentioned,.......

Once Boomer makes up His mind,......
I'll gladly ship ya the Whole Thing if you want to pay the Freight,.........d:)
Or,.... Any of the Pieces ya want.........

Re: `Bondo, Junk 351 Question.....

Well it sounds like Boomie can use the exhaust boots.....:)
There is alot of stuff I can use off of it.....
The engine I bought has an intake, but I can't tell if it is a 2 or 4 barrel.....
My present set up is FWC so any of the raw water cooling parts are of no use to me.....
It's too cold up there to wrench anyway, I'm sure......
Keep me posted....
 Back at ya!.......JK

Re: `Bondo, Junk 351 Question.....

Haut, RP's set up is the same as Bond-o's. They are both two barrels. The only thing that I might be interested in is one throttle cable bracket so there is certainly plenty left for you to get a complete 2 bbl setup from.

Even at that, I need to get over to see my 2 bbl setup so I can determine if a 2 bbl bracket can be modified to fit the wider bolt pattern of the rear two carb adaptor manifold bolts. A 4 bbl won't have that same reduced adaptor that the 2 bbl sits on.

As to the exhaust boot, can't see if either of them are still on but I suspect if they were they might be the straight ones not the belled ones.

I still have to take mine apart to see why it burned up a boot. (little burn, little hole)

The Chevy's are still running........... ;)

Naw, that's just an illusion xtr, the Fords ran so well for so long that people got out of the habit of having to nurse them along. Then one day, they finally did go poof, but in the meantime all the Chebby owners kept having to spend the time and money to apply bandaids.:p

Hey Boom....I believe the Motorcraft 2 bbl and the Holly 4 bbl (square bore) have the same mounting bolt pattern. Maybe a local parts house would let you compare the two base plate gaskets, I'm pretty certain of this.

Edit: Even if thats so, the 2bbl bracket probably won't go under the rear bowl of the 4bbl Holly. :'(

Edit # 2: Now if you used the Edlebrock 4 bbl it could probably work

The boat my engine is in must have had a 302 in it origionally. It looks like they just splayed some universal exhaust hose over to make the wider motor work with the narrower Y-pipe. They are both 3".

Indeed RP, both the 2 bbl and the 4 bbl manifolds had the same rear stud spread. The issue I'm dealing with is that apparently the 2 bbl Merc cable bracket did not span those holes. It appears that the 2 bbl carb sits atop a reducing base which then has it's own studs to bolt the carb to. Those hole appear to be closer together than the actual manifold stud holes.

At least that is what I am gathering from the fotos. As to the other issue, I'll have to check the 4 bbl Holley on my Gulfstream. Unlike my Beachcraft, my Gulfstream is sitting in the side yard.

Ayuh,..... You're Right Boomer,......

The Carb has a separate Base Plate that the carb body bolts to, at about 3, 3/4",ctc,.... That's where the Bracket goes,....
The Base Plate bolts to the Manifold,+ No, I didn't measure it......

I measured the Intake, it's 9.1/4" between the bolts, C to C......

And,.. I pulled this Bracket we've been talking about,...
My 1st guess is,..... It's Aluminum,+ Not Pot Metal.....atleast by my Weight estimate,.... I wouldn't Really Know for Sure,....til I pull the trigger on the Welder

Bond-o, I'll try to develop some dimensional requirements for the bracket and get back to you. Then you can see if it worth an attempt to do anything. Two dimensions I could use from you is the distance between the cable fastening point on the carb bracket and the cable holder out at the back end of the bracket. Then the length of the current bracket from the front mount hole center back to the center of the cable holder.

I can then make a mock up to determine the proper cable bracket length for use with a 4 bbl.

Basically it would require two mods. One is the bracket length, the other would be the ctc width where the bracket would need to mount over the wider rear manifold/carb base studs for the 4 bbl application.

I Think this 1 belongs Here,........

The measurement from the Cable Mounting Pin, to the Carb. Mounting Stud is 7", ctc.....
From the Cable Mounting Pin to the Carb Lever,..?..... You'll have to Wait til tomorrow.......d:)
The Width shouldn't be Too hard,.... If I can find a Squarebore Manifold laying around here, I'll use it to Jig it together......
Or the 1 on That motor, If the spread is Right......
Distance back,+ Offset shouldn't be a Problem either......

RP mentions a few things I know Nothing about,........
I might have to find a Holley to check fitments with.....

Here's a pic of the throttle cable bracket with some dimensions of the bracket.

NOTE: After looking at this engine it really looks like it probably came out of an auto. Notice the vacuum hose bosses and it also has an automotive vacuum advance distributer. :^ There is no spacer between the carb and the intake

I noticed in the pic of your engine, it has the Rodchester or Mercarb.

Mine has a Motorcraft.

Re: `Bondo, Junk 351 Question.....

Well, RP, yours is the bracket that I could use without difficult mods. The 5.25" is the rear manifold stud width. (2 bbl or 4 bbl) It looks like it would fit under the rear of the overhanging float chamber on a 4 bbl Holley.

But here is the sticky deal. I wouldn't want to try to wiggle my way into middle of Haut, who could use the full meal deal. Or maybe he could use Bond-o's set up complete with it's matching cable bracket.

So give him first whack and if that doesn't pan out maybe I'll get a nice bracket in lieu of fabricating some mickey mouse contraption.
