Hello. I have aquired a 1979 Evinrude 140. It didnt come with a lower unit, but,I am wanting to install a Hydroelectric lower unit from a 1972 125 Evinrude. I am very familiar with the mechanics of the Hydroelectric lowers as I have rebuilt a couple and they work well for me, and I favor them because they are nifty and not many people seem to ever have seen one which makes me want to continue running them. I have a Driveshaft which will let me hook the Hydroelectric lower up to the 140 solving the differing splines issue as the original Hydro's was a 4 spline and the 140's is a 13. The only other thing that would have to be changed is the upper bearing housing cover, and some modification of the water lines in the leg. Whatever, modifications wont be a big problem for me as I am a machinist.I am concerned about 2 things. One being the increased horse power of the 140 (15 more than the 125) and gear ratio differences. Just want to get some opinions before I begin from people who know. Thank you, J
