Well, it looks like the all-mighty government is going to give me some of my own money back this year! :D I've dedicated a portion to the boat, and at the top of the list is a set of smart tabs! This thing has horrendous bow rise on takeoff, it's an 18' Cal-Glass with a Ford 302/stringer drive and I think your tabs will be just the ticket. I was wondering if the standard or the new SX's would be better, and what weight actuators I will need (60 or 80#)? I'm not sure of the boat's weight, but it's definately @ss heavy. Here's a pic of my transom:

I'm thinking about mounting them just inboard of where my tiedown ropes are. The transducer on the port side is from a long-gone sounder and is going bye-bye. Will I/should I move my speedo pickup also? Is there a recomended distance it should be away from any tabs etc.?

Also, who in BC, Canada sells your tabs? I've been looking forward to getting a set since last summer and can't wait to try them! If they help 1/2 as much as what I've been reading from the other members that have tried them, I know at least a 1/2 dozen fellow boaters with similar issues I'll be recomending them to. 2 have already tried foils with only mediocre results. I had a foil on my previous boat (16' w/65hp OB) that while helping with bow rise and hole shot, cost almost 5mph and felt less stable at speed.

I'm anxious to give your product a shot! :D

PS: yes the boat is a little off-center on the trailer. Was blowing pretty good when I last loaded it and had a long line behind me, so I didn't waste time getting it perfect.

Further Outboard would be Better,...... They'll get better leverage for you......

Outside the Chines would be Best,.... If there's enough space for them there.....

I've only got 7 3/4" from the chines to the outside edge of the transom, and that would probably put the actuators right across where my tie-downs go. The boat rides quite stable side to side. I am most interested in reducing bow rise and lowering on-plane speed. Would having them inboard of the chines affect those funcions?

That's why I'm hoping he'll see this thread and pop his head in! How many other product designers (in any industry) are as comitted to customer satisfaction enough to personally respond to customers questions as John does? Not bloody many! I like his style!

Are ya out there John?

First I would rather see you re route the tiedowns than move the sensors, but you can do either.

Try Stevenson's marine, they have several outlets in BC. Or try West Marine.

If you have any other questions just call.

Re: Calling Mr. D- ST-SX question

Thanks for your reply. I'll check the suppliers you mentioned.

Would the SX tabs fit in the 7 3/4" between the chines and the outer edge of the transom? I'm still thinking just inboard of the chines would be the easiest spot. Would they be ok there? As I mentioned, the transducer is going anyways as it is not used. I don't think I will have to move the speedo pickup unless the tabs are going to affect it. I've got 12" from the pickup to the chine.

Thanks again!

i agree with john, use an over strap instead of the 2 single stern straps. and put 2 eyebolt in the trailer side.

Not sure what you mean by 'over strap'?

OK, re-read your post. Do you mean 1 strap going from the trailer side, over top of the stern and back down to the other side of the trailer? That would be easy enough to try if the tabs need to go right to the outer edge of the transom. Does it matter if they sit over the chine, or should they be to one side or the other?

John: I just checked those supliers and they don't show the SX tabs. I may just order them from the iBoats store. I was just trying to avoid having to go over the border to prevent delays.
