9.9 Evinrude, model 10522c

Hey everyone.. glad i found this site.. I have a 9.9 evinrude on a 14 Aluminum. The motor is model 10522c,, not sure on the year but am thinking is a late 70's early 80's. I just got this thing for a $100.. Tried it out yesturday and man, was it slow... For some reason i think its running on only one cylinder. The spark plug highest up was nice and toasty, while the other one was just luke warm.. The boat was maybe doing 5km/hr.. any ideas??? or does anyone Know of where to find a diagram of this engine.. well stick the lower unit of the motor in a large garbage can and start it. pull a spark plug wire off (insulated pliers). the engine should run on one cylinder. the rpms should drop, but keep running. then do the other plug. if the engine quits, 99% you have a coil to replace. i found 10524,25,55 all were 1975, yours may be canadian built, as these are US numbers.

Is it easy to replace the coil. I took it to a marina to get it fixed, they might not have it ready for a few weeks. Approx how much would it cost.>?

I have a 1975 9.9Hp Evinrude and the model number is 10524c. My manual is from Peterborough, Ontario so I am not sure if it is an American built motor or not but I suspect it may have a Canadian beginning. I have not heard of 10522c but that does not mean it does not exist.

As for changing the coils. That is about as easy as boat repair can get. I haven't changed mine but I have removed them and put them back on again. You just have to remove 3 bolts from the cylinder head (two if you only want to remove one coil) and unhook the little electrical hooks above and of course pull the spark plug boot off the plug. Keep an eye on where they connect the ground wires (they have a little washer end that squeezes in between the bolts above to give you a ground to the powerhead) and put the new one right back where you took off the old one and re-hook up the other end into the clip connection and put the boot back on the spark plug.

5 minutes tops (maybe 15 minutes on your first time).

As for the year of your motor. I am about 99% positive that we have the same motor. Re-check that last 2 on your model number to see if it might be a 4 or a 5. In the 70s, Evinrude would use the 10 to indicate 9.9Hp and the 5 to indicate 1975. The 24 and 25 I think indicated manual start and automatic start, respectively or short and long shaft, I cannot remember.

It is possible that your motor was made in some other far off land that OMC occupied and they used 22 to indicate manual or auto start but even if they did, I would suspect it was still a 9.9Hp made in 1975.

It definity looks like something from 1975,,, all manual everything.... thanks,, its for sure model 10522c.. Thanks ,,, My friend is changing both coils for me,, he said they were both cracked and worn , so i hope it does the trick...

I have the same engine, idles fine but won't rev out when I open it up just kind of runs hard and uses alot of fuel. I was given this engine by a person who bought a new one they said it always ran great and went fast. I'm kind of confused as to why it idles fine but won't advance when opened up, everything seems to be working properly. Carb has been rebuilt new plugs, blue spark, the fuel is good. Could the carb still be dirty even though it was rebuilt at a shop, or exhaust plugged. I did take the carb apart and spray it up. Starts first pull. I'm confused.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

I now am able to buy a 9.9 Evinrude model # 10524 C for $400 Didn't look at it yet, he said he would sell it for #350 cash Serial # 000885 one of the first made.
