The rectifier will work to charge your battery. I doubt it will cause your choke not to work.

I'm not a big Merc guy. However, the rectifier turns AC electrical current into DC current for charging the battery. It may very well be connected to the choke circuit.

What year motor is it? The rectifier has nothing to do with the choke.

"The rectifier has nothing to do with the choke."

Not arguing but it could if there is a short and that circuit "popped" the rectifier. I'm not a fan of old Merc wiring.

The guy needs a manual.

If you have a push to choke switch then yes it could be in the switch. None of my manuals cover your motor so I'm not sure of the wiring color code. Some used gray and some yellow/black to the switch. You will have to check your manual to see what color wire goes from the choke to the switch. Then with the key on, push it in and you should have 12V on that wire. A quick check would be to listen at the motor for a click while some one pushes the key in.

Sorry, can't help you with that. Hopefully someone else can. The back of manuals usually have the controls in them. If you can figure out what they are telling you. LOL
