Re: Help with identifying an OMC outdrive
The last few years of stringers were painted silver, that one appears to be white (under the black), so I expect it's pre '82. Definitely pre '84.
If the engine was 4 cyl, it's a 400 series, a V6 or V8 would be 800 stringer.
I had an '84 for 20 years, changed the upper seals & bearings 2 times, they were all off the shelf bearing supply house parts.
The 1st time a marine repair shop ordered the parts from OMC, for about $350. I kept the old parts, took them to Canadian Bearings here in Ontario, sourced the full set for $85 the 2nd time.
I expect the lower unit will probably also use standard seals, but that's a guess. I gave my OMC manual away when I sold the outdrive to switch to Merc.
Here's a pic of my '84 lower, note the rectangular hole just behind the 6 vent holes, that's where a second anode fits on later years. The primary one would be horseshoe shaped and bolted on at the top of the picture
The coiled black line is the shift cable.
