Had the same problem with mine Kris,
In the center of the unit on the boat, under the exhaust ports is a grooved metal tang about the size of your thumb, in the center of the outdrive under the exhaust port is a metal tongue that must be aligned to go into the groove on the bell housing, it tends to rotate out of alignment and causes the drive to stop dead in its tracks about where your at.
