Okay.... I'll volunteer. Someone build a garage large enough and give me one each of those Meanest cars and I will watch over them.... I would even drive them to keep them running.

Keep clickin the next button ... it will get to the meanest dozen. The Toureg is # 1. Benz has a bunch of them. Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel is high (or low) on the list. The GMC Yukon is # 10.

Re: Meanest 2008 Vehicles

Well hmmmmmm . . . This happens to be one of my favorite topics, but I am hell bent on turning it into social controversy, so if it poofs Art, sorry . . .

Where they make those beautiful, small, diesels, you are irresponsible with the environment if you buy a Petrol engine . . . I call this the emissions du jour syndrome, and basically it means that someone, somewhere won't like your engine for some reason, no matter how clean it is . . . In fact, define clean, or green, or both. I can't, and I do this for a living.

What I'd really like to see, is a comparison of vehicles by passenger seat mileage. So . . . if the Smart Car seats 2 you multiply it's mileage and divide its emissions by 2, and if the super mean Suburban seats 8 or 9, then you multiply and divide by 8 or 9 to get a comparable result. Oh, and the first response is always, "Well, who do you know that runs with 8 people in their Expedition?" And I say, "well we do, have, can, need to, sometimes . . ." And then my next question is, "who gets to determine when I have enough people in my car? When am I allowed to run with only the driver? When I have a note from my mommy that says I am picking up kids at school?" Hmmmmmm . . .

In fact, based on the ACEEE, if a diesel Touareg is mean, then a School Bus is truly evil

Re: Meanest 2008 Vehicles

Awww, good points Kevin. I was wondering when someone would bring those points to the forefront.

And what defines a "Green" vehicle? What about the amount of lead to dispose of when the battery bank goes on the electric hybrid? What about fuel mileage? Emissions per mile? Emissions released in the making of the car?

Too many times we jump on the popular "Environmentally Friendly" fad instead of truly looking at what is best for us as individuals, as a nation, and as a world population.

So, I drive a car that gets 40 MPG, but I have to drive 3 of them (or make 3 trips) to get my family from one place to another ... is that environmentally friendly?

Is it enviromentally friendly for me to get rid of my 18mpg vehicle (which will go to someone else) so I can make sure another vehicle is built (more emissions) that I can purchase that will get 28mpg? Will the cost justify the savings?

Just a lot of different questions we need to ask ourselves before jumping at the latest fad instead of the latest fact.

And Kevin, I drove a school bus for a number of years, and when they are full of grade school children, they truly are evil! :D

Aspeck,

YOU ARE NOT supposed to ask those questions.

YOU MUST COMPLY-GET IT?

When it comes to GREEN, thinking is NOT allowed.

Kapeesh!

I was recently on a Southwest Airlines flight. The nice couple, sitting next to me, had decided to go Green, and advised me of such. They decided that keeping their plastic drink cups, for future flights, was their answer to to the environmental issues that face us. I played along.

Need I say more?

#1 = gasoline powered pleasure boat

Even the Bentley Azure gets 9 mpg..... and it could carry you to work.... bet your powerboat can't do either :)

1 out of two count? Mine carried me to work for 10 years on the Banana river.
Boat ride every day and the boss always had breakfast waiting. :):):)

This may need to be a new signature . . .

They decided that keeping their plastic drink cups, for future flights, was their answer to to the environmental issues that face us. I played along.
Sheryl Crow and Larry David's wife (HBO/Seinfeld knucklehead guy) tried a year ago to get their solution of only one square per trip to the latrine national attention. I believe they met or tried to meet with Bush or something.

I actually do a few things, but nothing dramatic. One is I always refuse the bag when I buy something small. They look at me like I am from Mars, but I just can't see putting a pack of gum in a grocery bag. Last week it was one of those little tiny boxes of replacement fuses at Walmart. It got worse when I put it in my pocket, but I was pretty sure it was already mine when I did that . . .

There are definitely those among us that make me nervous. We were just Motorhome "camping" on the Colorado River at a spot with no sewer hookups. There was a new family there that we don't know well, especially the husband. Late night I was walking over around his coach to say good night, just as I saw him dump his blackwater right there in the bushes between us and the River    What a flippin' d_ _ _ head!!!
