Oil line broke and I repaired a week later I was running around 3500 rpm when it powered down like I let off the throttle.
Brought it back and I have a knocking sound during idle and 60pds compression on cylinder # 1
How bad is it.

Mako19crazy: 4 stroke? or 2?

I have a similar situation with my 115 1988 2 stroke straight-6. Out on the lake sunday, we had a total loss of power, throttle was near WOT and it slowed on it's own till it stalled, hard to start, ran rough, and so bad I thought I wasn't going to make it to the launch. On way back to launch, I heard a knocking/ticking sound that varies with RPMs. Would old/bad fuel/2-cycle oil do this? I haven't touched my carbs since bought new WAY back in '88, 'cept for shooting carb cleaner into the carbs at the beginning of each season once in a while. I've read that running it lean is bad (symptom of dirty carbs?) and causes major damage. I haven't had the time to check the plugs to see if I'm missing on a couple of cylinders. With the 4th of July weekend coming up, am I looking at a total rebuild? Would bad rings or a thrown rod cause the ticking/knocking? I'm a fair mechanic but only on my tow vehicle (a 14 year old ford exploder), so ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for anyone who can give me (us really, my co-owners and I) some hints.
