I have a newly received outboard and am having a hard time finding any info on it. The lower unit is marked E6RSM and the cowl is labeled Johnson 6 Workhorse. I've guessed at the oil ratio to be a standard 50:1 and replaced the existing Champion L77J4 plugs but am reluctant to adjust carb without more technical guidance. Does anyone know where I can get a reprint of the owners manual on this motor or service info? Thanks

The mixture would be 50/1..... BUT are you absolutely sure of that model number? I assume that you got it off of a plate on the port transom bracket?

Yeah I'm 95% sure of the number. Tonight I'll put my cheaters on and double check and maybe take a photo at the same time. Brad

recheck at dust, with a flashlight, sometimes they are easier to read.

Hi All,

Rechecked again and it is indeed an E6RSM s/n c7148137 Outboard Marine Corporation of Canada, Ltd. Any other thoughts?

OK, I checked here:

Yours is a 1981-82 Commercial 6hp. Evinrude and Johnson were identical for this engine, so I wouldn't be concerned about the discrepancy.

However, that's all the information I have for you. It's tough to get info on the Commercial models. Do you have a photo of it you could share with us? It might help identify what model it's similar to. I wouldn't take a guess, since the commercial engines sometimes were reversions to older models or derated versions of larger outboards.

A photo would definitely help. BTW, the site in the link is probably the most complete listing of OMC engine models, regardless of their origins or usages. It lists Commercial and Military models, along with the typical engines.

Interestingly, they also made a 6hp commercial model that ran on kerosene for those two years. The model is 6KCH, with an E or J in front to indicate brand. Now...I'd love to see one of those.
