I have a 96 or 97 i believe. It has a 120hp 2 stroke inbord, it is a jetboat, a Heat XR i think. Im wondering what i can do for a bit more performance, im not worried about like drivability or anything. I mainly want his thing to haul some *** and be able to have some fun with it, i have other baots for fishing and playing nice in so i decided to try and make this thing a bit more 'insane' i googled them and cant find ANYTHING on them.

Re: mercury 120hp performance?

Ok im very new to the whole boating scene, but not to engines/racing/going fast. Im unsure of what you guys are talking about but yes it is a jet boat (glorified or not) and its a 120hp mercury 2stroke engine. I 'think' it would be called an inboard as it is definatly not an outboard unless i am seriously mistaken here. Im at my lake house where it is in storage and it is a 1996 sugar sand heat xrt for sure.

Im just looking for a point in the right direction on where to maybe even find some info on making it a bit faster. Dont just tell me to get another boat as we just bought a searay 205 with a mercruiser 5.0 (i know i know small but its fun). I raced mx for a few years when i was younger and have built many engines, from my dsm to my procharged stang so im not afraid of swapping or tearing down engines. I just want a little advice guys, sorry.

Re: mercury 120hp performance?

I did a little goggling and found that http://www.jetboating.net has a forum dedicated to Sugar Sand jets. You might find better/more applicable information there. From what I can gather it is indeed a 120HP powerhead (either Mercury or Force, not positive) mated though the hull to a jet drive. So indeed it would be a 2 stroke I/O jet boat.
