I can't believe this

Since one of our stores got fire and smoke damage Monday, here is some of the stuff that people try to do.

At our office today, 8 different customers called to complain about being short changed. The funny part is they said it was from the store that is now closed til Friday. So it didn't happen.

Then two customers complained of smoke inhalation. However the security video showed everyone was out before any smoke came thru the air conditioner vents. One of the guys argued that he came out of the restroom to find nobody in the store and that is when he inhaled smoke. The video shows him leaving out the door with his friend. He didn't even use the restroom, plus they were the first ones out.

Then another woman was seeking charges against us for having a non operable fire alarm system.....Hmmmmmm , this store doesn't have an alarm system. Probably why she didn't hear an alarm, but she sure heard the roofer holler FIRE!

People seeking something for nothing really aggrivates me. Just glad with the new technology of security systems, it puts them in their place at times. :D

It's not surprising with the costs of everything nowadays SS.
Some people will try anything to make a buck.

Everybody wants something for nothing. Although we are all a little guilty of that sometimes, most of us can use common sense and decency to influence our desire. Unfortuantely if given the chance some people will seize any opprotunity to exploit a situation for their own personal gain.

I do believe that 90 percent of the population are good, well natured people who constantly battle the same 10 percent of jackasses.

I believe it ... some people do anything for nothing. My bro has a self serve car wash and it is always the same people that call and say the machines cheated them.

I heard of a story of a (NYC Transit) bus that left the depot and got into an accident. There were a lot of claims from people that 'were on the bus' when it got into the accident.

Having just left the depot, no one was on it but the driver. And, there were more claims than the capacity of the bus.

I can't vouch for the truth of this, it was a while ago that I heard it (pretty reliable source), but I didn't confirm.

We had a power outage last summer. It was about 10pm, dark out, generators running (for the freezer/coolers), just exit lights, and people still pulled up to the window wanting served. Then left angry? I think there are people who are addicted to fast food :D

Spinner, Just chalk it up to free entertainment that comes along with dealing with the public.

I worked a few retail stores when I was a young man, and be the store a high end department store or a discount store, there are always people who will try to get something they are not entitled to. Be it returning tires that are obviously many years old and being told they are new, to cloths that were worn, washed, worn, washed, etc and then returned.

The stores had fancy names for it. I used to call it stealing.

The one about the lady at McDonalds burning her crotch with coffee always comes up. I can't speak for that incident but I can tell you this - fast food stores very often do heat the coffee too much.

I was once aquainted with a woman who worked in a Wendy's - she was making coffee per the standard procedure in one of their coffee makers, and accidentally knocked a full urn off of the counter. It spilled on one of her feet and burned her so badly that she suffered both nerve and circulatory system problems. She eventually had to have the limb amputated.

I agree that there are tons of folks with scams but it isn't always the case.

Some gases may not be visible in or around a fire (initially)

Jay, Define too hot? Coffee is supposed to be between 200 and 205 degrees... much hotter and it will boil, so unless the coffee was boiling and possibly in a pressure cooker at the time, then it was just at the standard temperature. It sucks but if you put your foot in 200 degree water for more than a couple of seconds (I presume her shoes and socks held the hot coffee against her skin for more than a few seconds), that is the result. That's why you're supposed to be careful around things like hot coffee and boiling water.

It's like sticking your tongue in a toaster and complaining that you got electrocuted because the toaster was using too much electricity... it's really simple, just don't stick your tongue in a toaster.

As for the person complaining/seeking charges against SS Mayfloat for not having a working fire alarm, they probably have a valid point and SS may get hit with a ticket for that. I'm not sure what the fine would be, but probably a couple hundred bucks. But that is something that only the city or county his business resided in can do, and the person complaining about it wouldn't see a cent of it. But... when you rebuild SS... make sure you put in a smoke detector or two at the least. I think here, retail establishments have to have sprinkler systems to be up to code.

PS - SS, you should have the rest of those people who were complaining about being shortchanged sign afidavits, then have them prosecuted. :D

What third world country do you live/work in that your store doesn't have a fire alarm? Forget freeloaders complaining about shortchanging, you have a roofer that sounds the alarm? And the responses, members calling people scumbags? For the shortchanging, or for the lack of safety devices in the store? Sounds a bit holier than thou if you ask me. You have a 'roofer' ...I assume that's third world lingo for forest ranger? Grab a hot hot hot cup of coffee and join the real world. On a forum such as this that preaches boating safety, the fact that so many jumped in without caring about the lack of safety in said store shows a lot about membership here....Carry on.

You might notice my post a few posts back... that already mentioned the fire alarm thing...

I'm just an ol redneck from the sticks, but if I am sitting in a joint and I see smoke, I don't need a fire alarm to tell me to get out.

Maybe, but even in the sticks, you need one to be up to code. I can't imagine that the city/county would sign off on the permits to rebuild whatever needs to be rebuilt otherwise.
