Today the ecomomy racheted down a whole bunch of notches. This is the first time that the national employment rate has taken a big hit during this energy and financial crisis.

I am not surprised. I have long contended that the economy might withstand one or the other but not both together. The Wizeone is now being proven correct.

What are our overpaid representatives doing during this crisis you ask. They continue to talk about trillion dollar remedies for a 'global warming' event that we could not affect with all the money on the planet. Some continue to talk about raising taxes as an issue of fairness.

None are talking about going after our God given resources with every fiber in our bodies. They lament that we are dependant on our quasi friends and enemies for our energy needs. They continue to fantasize about alternative forms of energy that are simply not within our grasp right now, especially at volumes that will keep us from moving back to the caves.

I, for one, have to believe that there is a very strong element that wants things to continue in the direction they are going, elsewize they would facilitate this nation's grabbing the bull by the horns and doing the 'American' thing of pulling ourselves up by the bootstraps and getting the hell out of this mess.

I will tell you this, if things keep up like they are going, there will be no iboats forum, politics or not. I cannot believe, that like my local outdrive guru, they will not be sitting on their butts, twidling their thumbs with no one calling.

Don't wanna go there. Suffice it to say that I disagree with a whole lot of what you've written, but I've had enough politics for one day.

I agree with most of what you say. A little less hopless out look, but most of it. I completely agree that we need to use every existing resource we got to the enth degree, because we are stuck with what we got for a while at least. All the while we need to keep expanding our "alternative" options. Global warming is the biggest load of BS and I cannot believe that in a time like this politicians are still considering spending money on it just to feel better about themsleves.

Regardless of what happens, I plan to put every extra dime I got into getting out on and enjoying the lake... before this earth gets too hot and it evaporates, lol.

Re: Well, the beat goes on!

Recently there was a posting as to agressive posting ...the old day's. And again i will admit to some very hostile post's. But that was then and this is now. I will suggest that we no longer keep our ego's hanging right out there on our chin. I for one believe it truly time for this country to forget about our own selfless opinion's and the path to righteousness. There is so much disinformation and corruption taking place now....the avergage guy needs to think and feel clearly.

Some think i may be a hard liner, some think i am a lib... Im just a American with 4 kid's and worried. But i rember a great man who once gave a speech that changed the world a bit. He lit up the USA to the world and all of it's pitfall's and his word's bring astounding clarity to me today and world event's...

Plz resist reading your own agenda's into this speech, it is greater than anyone personal agenda and speaks clearly to world event's of today. I for one believe this country is in a defining moment is world history.. we need to come together and unite as a people and not a government...i believe they have lost there way.

We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom -- symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning -- signifying renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.
The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe -- the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.
We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans -- born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
This much we pledge -- and more.

To those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends. United there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided there is little we can do -- for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.
To those new states whom we welcome to the ranks of the free, we pledge our word that one form of colonial control shall not have passed away merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny. We shall not always expect to find them supporting our view. But we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom -- and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.
To those people in the huts and villages of half the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required -- not because the Communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.
To our sister republics south of our border, we offer a special pledge: to convert our good words into good deeds, in a new alliance for progress, to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty. But this peaceful revolution of hope cannot become the prey of hostile powers. Let all our neighbors know that we shall join with them to oppose aggression or subversion anywhere in the Americas. And let every other power know that this hemisphere intends to remain the master of its own house.
To that world assembly of sovereign states, the United Nations, our last best hope in an age where the instruments of war have far outpaced the instruments of peace, we renew our pledge of support -- to prevent it from becoming merely a forum for invective, to strengthen its shield of the new and the weak, and to enlarge the area in which its writ may run.

Finally, to those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction.

We dare not tempt them with weakness. For only when our arms are sufficient beyond doubt can we be certain beyond doubt that they will never be employed.
But neither can two great and powerful groups of nations take comfort from our present course -- both sides overburdened by the cost of modern weapons, both rightly alarmed by the steady spread of the deadly atom, yet both racing to alter that uncertain balance of terror that stays the hand of mankind's final war.

So let us begin anew -- remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate.
Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us.

Let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms, and bring the absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations.

Let both sides seek to invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors. Together let us explore the stars, conquer the deserts, eradicate disease, tap the ocean depths, and encourage the arts and commerce.

Let both sides unite to heed, in all corners of the earth, the command of Isaiah -- to "undo the heavy burdens, and [to] let the oppressed go free."?

And, if a beachhead of cooperation may push back the jungle of suspicion, let both sides join in creating a new endeavor -- not a new balance of power, but a new world of law -- where the strong are just, and the weak secure, and the peace preserved.

All this will not be finished in the first one hundred days. Nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days; nor in the life of this Administration; nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin.

In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe.

Now the trumpet summons us again -- not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need -- not as a call to battle, though embattled we are -- but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation,"? a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself.
Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort? In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility -- I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it. And the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.

Better go back and xxxxx out that L word Coors. I don't want this thread to get zapped.

This was not intended to be political. It was intended to disclose that things are headed south, fast!

Major airlines sidelining planes, fares going thru the roof, major companies starting to feel the pinch and laying people off, stock market taking big hits. Even cheburashka's home equity is rapidly vaporizing whether he chooses to acknowledge it or not.

If some unified and determined face is not quickly shown, this could go from bad to worse, sooner than later.

Sure, I realize it. We're in a bad time. Still, that's no excuse to throw all caution to the wind and forget about the future. We've been screwing up the environment something fierce for a long time now, and people are finally getting wise to it. Now, we hit a bit of turbulence and people start saying "The economy's bad, so let's screw the environment up faster and really make Mother Earth pay." What about your kids? What about mine? We'll weather this. We always do. But it's truly selfish to be saying "let's grab ALL the oil NOW for US, cuz we won't be around much longer." Selfish and irresponsible I say.

The oil's going to run out some day. Burning the oil isn't good for the planet. And like it or not, we're fouling our nest with a vengeance--and that's true whether or not you admit global warming is real. We'll have to solve these problems some day, so why not now?

I swear, some folks sense of environmental responsibility is about the same as the financial sense of a crack fiend in front of "EZ Payday Loans."

Then remeber the man remeber and the vision and dont be defeated., you can kill a man but not his dream. No one person now matter how big or small can bring that vision to reality...but united we can force it. God we are a bunch of fighter's just, remeber this forum and all of it's hostile post's. We all want the same thing, just remeber we as a people decide issue's and lead the way.......And when a indvidual does bring inpsiration...and unless we demand it as a whole and fight...are dreamer's and leader's will be gone...Remeber another man...I Have A Dream...and some low life snuffed it..you have to unight and fight...Look closely into Kennedy's speech......the world face's many challenge's.

More cycles of sunspots, don't effect?
Normal cycles of the earth warming and cooling don't effect?
In the early '80's the same people were warning of the coming ice age; they have an agenda-no hyped crisis= no job.

The whole point of my disertation was that it is going well beyond "a little bit of turbulence". Plus I did not advocate grabbing 'ALL' the oil, only developing and using our own God Given resources.

It was warmer in the middle ages- no oil had been discovered, no factories, no cars. Cow fart accounts for more than us humans; maybe we should kill the cows, and bring on more starvation?

Agreed old Wize one, No matter what opinion you may have, any person or country speaking to another and not dealing with a solid or better hand is going to lose..Kennedy said as much...actually i will no longer make reference to his speech... it is beyond me.

There are no more sucker's on the world stage.....

How quickly we forget. After Katrina, everyone knew that life was soon to end because gas hit $3. Whoop-de-fricken-doo!!! That lasted all of 4-6 months and people adjusted. People will adjust again. This correction is long overdue on the housing, energy and cost of living front. Painful...yes, but necessary to put our entitlement syndrome in check. We have been on an unsustainable roll of prosperity the last decade. The bubble has busted.

You know, that's not a bad idea. The thing is, you've got it wrong as to starvation. Beef is a very inefficient food. Kill the cattle, and the water and grain they consumed will be available for human consumption. Even the most conservative estimates state that it takes 2.6 pounds of grain to produce a pound of beef.

Like it or not, global climate change theory is based on good scientific observation and the human contribution to CO2 in the atmosphere is extremely well documented.

Yes, it was warmer in the Middle Ages. There are still natural weather trends which affect us. The thing is, we built all of our cities around the current coastline and we've adapted to it quite well. If we heat things up again, stuff's gonna get ugly.

Believe me, you don't want to get started on the global warming thing with me. Let's just let it drop and talk about something pleasant, OK?
