Re: Wellcraft Sportsman makeover

I woulda thought you'd go for twin outboards.

Too bad about that tiny boat ramp.:)

Very happy with the performance,32 kts on gps.Faster than I thought it would do.When the 200hp takes a dump,I will go with a 225 or 250hp

Took Kelle fishing in the bay to get the first fish on the New ride. She caught 3 bass and one Mackeral.I caught one pelican.Ready to take the boat offshore for some late Yellowfin tuna bite. For you that have been to San Diego, you should reconize Point Loma and the Coronado bay bridge

Wow.... I have to say.. I'm very impressed. I wish I had thought of that as an option for my stringer setup. My OMC stringer has given me an ulcer! Best of luck to you with your awesome setup!

Re: Wellcraft Sportsman makeover

Rich,
Great Job! The results are amazing . 32 knots with a 200. I have same boat w/o the bracket and my top speed w/ Twin Carbed 150 Mercs is 33mph. I have a lot of questions. I'd like to pick your brain. Right now after using the boat for 1 season have mixed feelings about her. I think a newer DI 250 on that bracket would be Ideal power for me. Another thing I noticed from your excellent pics is how much higher your boat sits in the stern. I lke to pm you and maybe get your # so I can give you a call. Thanks Glenn

Thanks You have great ideas. Good talking to you too. I'm just on a fact finding mission right now. But definitely will share when and if I do. I checked your buddy's boat out....very interesting. Not as detailed as you though. I have an idea , about how I'm going to enclose that area. I'll stay in touch.....Thanks again

Re: Wellcraft Sportsman makeover

Well,it's been a while since any updates. I had the upper hoop on my hardtop modified so it would swing down instead of having to unbolt and removing it.New fenders on the trailer, added a Furuno gp7000 to interface withe the 600L and radar.Renamed her "SOUTHWESTERN" because of the area I fish(San Diego offshore)
Here are some pix

Well after installing the SMIS gauges and such all I needed was the new prop.It showed up this morning so it was time to check out the repower. All I can say is AWSOME it is so quiet compared to the old Yammie 2 stroke. You can not tell it is running while ideling.

Well I ran to the Coronado Is. with my son and his friend to do a little fishing. The motor ran great! Total trip was 86 miles and burned 26 gal of fuel after fill up. My son Travis with a Sculpin and his friend Kyle with a California Yellowtail.

Re: Wellcraft Sportsman makeover

The boat has been flawless so far after the new motor went on. The only thing wrong is we are having a bad fishing season. The Albacore went way West and North. Oregon and Washington are having good catches this year. We had a few Yellowtail a month or so ago and that's it.

Re: Wellcraft Sportsman makeover

Hey Rich,
I haven't checked this thread in a while .....your recent mods and repower look awesome. Did the top speed increase? You must be using half the gas. I'm anxious to to start on mine but I just don't have the ducats yet. One good thing with all the repowers to 4 strokes there seem to be quite a few newer Merc and Yammi DI and efi's on used market. So maybe by April of 2011 I'll be able to post some upgrades. BTW nice fish too ....safe seas Glenn
