I bought a news outside A/C unit 4 years and 5 months ago.

My checkbook stub says I wrote a big check to appliance dealer A.

Yesterday the compressor went POW!!.

My files and other places I stuff paper fail to produce a receipt, dealer A says they never heard of me and they don't sell that brand.

It is 98* in here and a wrench from dealer B is installing a new compressor.

Another big check will use up the bux I set aside for a wedding present for my son. :(

This receipt will be framed and hung by the t'stat.

I guess I really fouled this one up.:(:(

I am surprised that with a date and $ amount from your check stub that they wouldn't be able to find something.......maybe they people that work there now didn't work there when they sold that brand. If I were them I would certainly do some digging in my files to help out the customer.

Check with your bank, they should have a record of any check they cashed on your behalf.
I don't know if that will help you now but at least you will have some bargaining power with AC company A.
Man, that hoovers!

Check with the maker of the unit, just went through that with M tag, on my fridge, they sent me a new comp, no charge, I just pay the installer.
Generally all compressors are min 5 yr warranty from Manufacturer
Luck

And by the way that does justify another cold beverage

We appreciate your sympathy, JB.

It's been an incredibly cool season here. The 2 1/2 weeks of summer in West Michigan were kinda nice, but the leaves are already beginning to fall in our neighborhood.

In a couple weeks when we need to put away the docks and raft at the lake, I sincerely hope I'm not the one who has to dive down and unhook the raft. That water's already getting COLD:eek:

It still surprises me how people roll over so easy... get a copy of the cancelled check from the bank (if it's been less than 5 years ago, they WILL have a copy of it and by law they must provide you with a copy if you ask for it (though they can charge a fee to do so), then go show it to dealer A and make them pay for the repairs dealer B did... if they refuse, lodge a complaint with your state's attorney general's office, the BBB, the FTC, and any other consumer affairs group you can find. BURY them in complaints... if dealer B's repair was expensive enough to warrant it, file suit against dealer A if the complaints don't provide you with relief.

Re: Whine, whine, snivel, snivel

I don't think you are whining.
Having bad luck like this with your AC hurts.
Having to give to give up the money you saved for your son's wedding,is a terrible thing to happen to any loving parent.
Please do go after company A with all of your capabilities.
It a shameful thing for them to deny you the service you have a right to.
I suspect that they are trying to get away with this sort of behavior because you are no longer forty years old.
A call to an AARP representative in your area may produce miracles. No company anywhere in the USA wants to be on the AARP black list. If you prefer not to go that way, then write an opinion about this company and put it on Angie's list while making sure you send company A a copy of your report on Angie's list.
Do not allow anyone to roll over you because of your age!!!!
Good Luck!!!

Re: Whine, whine, snivel, snivel

i dunno guys.....i dont think age has much to do with it.....from an owners standpoint......a coustomer is a coustomer.......the prob here as i see it is......

a guy walks in......and says his ac carped out.......the store says whats your name....he says its mr.me....they say we dont have a mr. me on file cause they changed the computers two years back....the staff has all changed....and we dont know you or have a record of you...and we dont even sell that brand......can you please bring us more info mr. me and well be happy to help you.......not the stores fault......

however jb.....the manufacturer has a record of the unit number and who installed it and who bought it.

the comp should be on a 5 year warranty.....btw....thats a $1000 to $1500 job.....the documents you need are there....somewhere.....(furnace room?)
just a little more searching....and some help from the bank......youll find your missing documents.........

cheers bud

I would whine and snivel too. I have had a belly full of therse 105* days. At least we finaly got rain (2.5") and cooler temps today. I think I would take my ole 30/30 and make double daXX sure it was dead!

Re: Whine, whine, snivel, snivel

Funny you post this. Our AC went out last night. We can't get someone here tomorrow. But we've been so fortunate because the weather has been very cool for this time of year (highs in the high 80s as opposed to low 100's) the past couple of days due to rain. Its only 80 in the house and the thermostat was on 77 when the AC went out. That was almost 24 hours ago so we're quite lucky. Its still muggy in there though.

JB what brand is it? Our is only 2 and a half years old and it's dead.

The brand is Bryant. The tech from "B" said it is a subsidiary of Carrier.

Have a look here JB http://www.bryant.com/products/acheatpumps/ac/evolution.shtml I googled this not sure if itll work or not. Should be able to find some customer service here, what they basically need is model and serial number to verify when it was made.

Don t let the repairman take the old compressor, if theres a warranty on it and they re not tellin ya you could still recoup some of your loss
