Actually yes. If I buy a pint of that oil, would that be enough for 6 gallons of gas? Thanks again.

Hey S.T., I use Pennzoil outboard oil... That's pretty good stuff, right?? I've noticed that they have synthetic now, but it's about double the cost of the good ole' dinosour juice... Is it worth it??

While we're talking fuel, what octane fuel should I be using in my outboard?? I've been filling up w/ 93 and it starts and runs great.. Will I likely notice a performance decrease if I go down to 87 or 89?? Heck, I've even heard some folks say that they run BETTER on lower octane fuel!! Whaddayathink?

BTW, Its a '92 Force 70HP. Thanks!!

Hey, CM.

It is not good to piggyback a new question on someone else's thread. It doesn't get proper exposure.

Yes, Pennzoil is good stuff. So is WalMart's SuperTech, which is made by Pennzoil. I use SuperTech.

93 octane fuel helps flatten your wallet. It does nothing else.

Good luck. :)

i run Opti-2 oil in my 35 merc. it is smokeless and you mix 12 oz. per 10 gallons of gas. its fairly cheap and its great oil. we gained more power when we switched over to it and our motor flat-out runs BETTER!!! i recommend it to everyone!!! and on top of all that...it contains fuel stabilizer so you dont have to measure and mix any stabilizer. some features are reduced smoke, lower running temps, reduced break-in period, much greater horsepower, and extended engine life.

Paul,
I have been using Amsoil in all of my 2 stroke engines for the past few years. I have been very happy with it, a little less smoke, and it can be mixed with any other oils so changeover is easy. I find it for about $18 a gallon, but I have heard it is available for a little less. I run a V-6 135 Mercury outboard, 3 (soon to be 4) snowmobiles, string trimmer and chainsaw, all with the Amsoil Synthetic. That's my vote!

Enjoy

Any late TCW oil is fine. I like pet oil so I can see the smoke and know the engine is getting lubed (not so with synthetic).

Also, remember that synthetic will not cling as well during idle storage and corrosion protection is not as good as regular oil. Something to consider if the engines sits for months at a time without fogging.

Anyone tried any "biodegradeable oils"? Johnson makes (or sells) one at about 30 bucks a gallon. Is it a gimmik?

I'm with Sloopy. Use Pennzoil Synthetic Blend at $9.47 a gal from my Wal mart. Very little smoke and runs better

Also using Penzoil. Was just told by boat dealer (they also specilize in rebuilds and tune-ups) that they like Penzoil because it brings in more business! Told me to chuck the yellow stuff and get only the Mercury Brand. Something about ash content and building up carbon at the top of the cylinder head and busting rings. Sales hype or something to think about? Penzoil is rated for TC-W3 and all the other requirements. Let's hear from the long time experts out there.

J&J. Go to a different dealer.

Differences among petro TC-W3 oils are subtle, but none of them are going to do what they told you about Pennzoil.

J&J,

I've had two diffreent service managers tell me they wouldn't sell Pennzoil because of the problems they see with it. Many people have good luck with it though!

dean

Re: Which 2-cycle oil do you guys use?

dean,
I can find engine mechanics that sell Pennsoil and say it runs the cleanest and the other are dirty. Ask the Merc, OMC, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki mechanics and they are going say theirs is best. That's why the TCW-3 rating is to be trusted.

I've had too many outboards and run too many different brand oils to believe the hype that one is so much better. More than likely it is poor mixture or cold running that loads up the piston crowns with carbon but oil "brands" get the blame.

If it helps anything I flew 2 stroke ultralight planes for several years and used Pennsoil 99% of the time and never had a problem in Kaw 440 twins. Most 2 stroke flyers use Pennsoil so that must say something for the brand. I'd also say the flyers do a little more investigating on oil than boaters do.

For my boat engines I use Merc oil in my Merc and OMC oil in my OMC. In my older "don't care" outboards I use whatever WallyWorld has. Quite frankly I see little difference in any of the pet oils.
