I'm waiting on pictures to confirm this, there is what is supposed to be a 1970 18' boston whaler for sale here for less than what the tandem axle trailer is worth. my question is this, this is supposed to have a 120hp i/o and everything i've found about boston whalers is they were o/b powered. is this correct? is it worth restoring?

Re: question about boston whalers

BW built some I/Os in the 70s and 80s.

I don't have record of any 18' I/Os from 1970, or even the 19' Outrage I/Os that early. Most of the I/Os were Outrage 19s during the 70s.

There is certainly at least a partial error in ID-ing the boat. It may not even be a Boston Whaler, as some folks seem to think that is a type of boat, rather than a brand.

Please post the pix when you get them, Rocky. I have every BW brochure from 1958 to 2003, so we should be able to correctly ID it.

Found this on another site. Here is a quote:

"There were several hundred built in New England in the early 70's and Boston Whaler sold a few rebranded as the Yankee Voyager."

The mold that Whaler used for the Yankee Voyager was purchased from Hi-Liner of Connecticut.
I found that in the Whaler forum. So it does appear that they did produce another boat that may not "resemble" the typical Whaler that we have come to recognize.

Theres a bunch of whaler Rage jet boats around,
some get converted to outboard when the jet drive burns out.

The Outrage 19 was first offered with sterndrive in 1975. They weren't very popular and were dropped after only a few years.

The Yankee Voyager was never offered or branded as a Boston Whaler. The pic above clearly shows that it did not have the famous Boston Whaler hull construction.
