there is a ton of this stuff out there, like this one, but i just got this from my sister and got a kick out ot this one

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!! !

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning

... Uphill...!

BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay

A bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it

And how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of
Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it s o easy! I mean, compared to my
Childhood, you live in a Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you
Don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the library and
Look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write
Somebody a letter, with a pen!

...Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to
Steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
Were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school,
Your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
Just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video
Games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
Like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
Actually had to use your Imagination! ! And there were no multiple levels or
Screens, it was just one screen
Forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting
Harder and harder and
Faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that
Was only m-net And there was no on screen menu and no remote
Control!

You had to use a Little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
On! You were screwed when it Came to channel surfing! You had to get up and walk over to the TV to change the Channel and there was no </ SPAN>
Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
On Saturday Morning. Do you Hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK
For cartoons, you spoiled
Little rat-%%%%!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
Something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that!

If we wanted Popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing
And shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.
That' s exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
Today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted
Five minutes back in 1980!

Regards, The over 30 Crowd :):p;)

I HAVE ONE TO ADD: REMEMBER BEING ON THE PHONE..... LITERALLY....There were no Cordless phones... if you got a call in the house you were stuck standing or sitting right next to the phone.... now we walk all over the place and look for misplaced items while talking.... Saying "hold on a second" has now become a thing of the past..... AND NOW: You can get a phone call in your pocket while walking down the street..... These spoiled brats can talk 24 hours a day on the phone,,,, AND I had to beg for half and hour of phone time and keep my grades up in order not to lose the priviledge.

i'd like to have them days back myself...
to much technology for me these days... though a refrigerator is a nice thing to have... i remember grandma talking of how they kept their food cold all summer with the ice they'd took out of the river in the winter and put in a deep hole with straw to keep the food cold in the summer....

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I remember the last generation saying the same stuff. That particular generation grew up in the depression. I've noticed they all like to out-poor one another. It started out - we didn't have TV and ended up with no shoes and didn't eat dinner every night. My generation was spoiled in their eyes.
I suspect it's always been like that through the ages.

Can you image - "Heck, when I was a youngster, we didn't have bows and arrows, we had to sneak up and club the critter".

Very rarely you'll hear a busy signal anymore. My grandson thought something was wrong with our land line (once called home phone). He said that it kept making a beeping tone instead of the ringing tone. He had never heard a busy signal before. He's 10,,, or is he the 12 year old?????? Nope, I think he was my other daughters son that is 14? Geeesh, see what happens when you get old? :D

Yup back in the day when we thought the 8track was the best stereo out there. Every one should have came with a book of matches to line up the tracks.

Im surprised JB hasn't logged on to this one with a back in the day story.;)

i remember the phones did not have push button, or rotary dials. thought someone had broken grandma's phone. you told the operator who you wanted to talk to. those were the days, you didn't have to remember a phone number.

I have my grandma's phone in the basement, it's a wood box and crank with a bell in it. But it has a phone with a cradle attached to it. No buttons or rotary dial on it.

I walked also. You up in Canada even colder then here by me.

Yea i know the stories in deep snow, no shoes, and coat.

Don't tell the kids i had shoes, and a coat, but it was deep snow, and they were hand me downs from my brother.

I didn't get new stuff till i joined up. Even my Boy Scout uniform was hand me downs. Still have it.

Re: The Spoiled Under-30 Crowd

No TV in our house till I was 12yrs old. I thought it was brilliant and loved the black n white screen. We were allowed to watch the 6 o'clock news then dad would turn it off till "Z cars" or "Softly, Softly" was on.
Fish didn't have fingers back then and McDonalds was a farm in a poem.
All the new fangled gear was only to be had on the "Jetsons" and we thought it'd never happen.
Cars all ran on "high octane fuel" and the petrol station only had 2 bowsers, one was for diesel, the harbour ferry was steam powered and we'd all marvel at the huge engines it had.
Our father had a car, a marvel then and years later we learnt he was the first in the neighbourhood who actually owned his own, unheard of as all the others were company vehicles.
Our favourite transport was a 12' clinker built dinghy which was rowed or powered in later years by a seagull outboard, this was used for years till eventually stolen.
We didn't lock our doors, neighbours were welcome to walk through the house looking for us!
Anybody that arrived got fed, from the kitchen not the shops!

Oh and I must add that Kiwis visit at the back door, the front door is for somebody important or people looking for somebody important! We still visit at the back door today, and feel very happy to sit at the kitchen table to chat.

My grandchildren look shocked when I too fall into the eternal age defined tradition of recalling the past..........

Never mind, they'll rule the earth one day and look after our legacy that our parents fought so hard for.

Oh dear, there I go..................................................

Re: The Spoiled Under-30 Crowd

Something has changed that I have noticed, and I think it is the fault of the matured
generation, of which I am a part. When we were around 18ish, we had a yearning to
"get out on our own", whether it was to school, to a full-time job, or to the military.

The 18ish to 30ish of today don't have that like we had. Many of them are happy to stay at
home with their parents, even if they are married. Ok, economic times are different, and
there's no "where they hiring now" corner talk anymore. I don't think that's the biggest
factor, though, as I think that too many younger folk just don't want to cross the growing
up threshold from playing computer games to learning technical skills and making it on their own.

I used to feel proud when I shoveled snow in the winter as a youngster, and I wonder
how many youngens experience that today. It's not enough to hope for the best, as it's
better to work for the best.

There's fortunately some still troddin' on the right paths, but some trends for all are not so.
