Apparently I'm an outboard collector now

I wanted to buy a 10hp johnson on craigslist, but he wouldnt sell just one, he wanted them all gone. So I got them all

here is the one I wanted:

I dont know what the compression is supposed to be, but I got 65 out of both cylinders.

And the ones included:

Super quiet 40hp sea horse

Evinrude 40hp longshaft:

My first merc:

18 Hp Evinrude Tiller:

I did a test, 105psi per cylinder

And whatever this thing is:

they all seem to have good compression, some need coils, some need carb work (probably all) and all complete.

He said the merc is an excellent running motor. He went to change the spark plugs and cross threaded one, and bought a new motor not knowing it was repairable.

Before testing compression on a 2 stroke you need to get it lubed by either starting it or some fuel mix in the cyls. Thats a 24 to 1 engine and does not have needle bearings so it must have the extra oil to live. Your compression is a little low but it should be great with 75#

I threw some premix in there. I didn't pull the rope 20 times to get a good test, just 2 or 3.

Starting it isn't really an option yet. I want to inspect/clean the coils and points, clean the carb, then see if it'll run. If it does then Ill change the lower unit fluid, buy ned plugs, coils, all the stuff a good outboard needs.

Is it a water cooled? (the 10hp) I don't see water inlet holes, or a tell-tale

You are now the owner of a British made "Seachief".Probably from around 1959.Or as you call it "Whatever this thing is"
It is an air cooled engine In fact it has the same motor that the British Sea Bee used.

Oh really? there is that one thats complete. And half of another one. Looks very sold. The entire lower unit turns, not the entire outboard. So the power head is stationary. It would be difficult to throttle up and down in a turn. Its deffinatley a 2 handed engine

The green ten horse is water cooled.It uses the same cooling system that OMC has always used.
The intake is in the fin behind the propeller,there should be a small round screen there.
