I don't know who or how I went from cadet to seamans apprentice, but thank you. I'm honored.

Re: seamans apprentice

Its when you post something without having anything of value to offer to a thread. The sole purpose of posting in such case is to drive up your post count.

Yes , Fakeplay , some members shamelessly add to rank and stature just by posting meaningless drivel . At least some of us arn't above such lowly tactics !!!

WOW what I just read was the first sign of negativity and BS I have heard in the 3 tears here on Iboats. I think you believe know one but yourselfs have an opionion especially when learning and wanting to contribute right or wrong!!! I personally could care less about status or post counts

The more you post the higher your rank. Some folk pad the posts for status and others just post to contribute. Your rank and your choice.

Oh No! You called it the basement :D Now find the cellar dwellers and you will be all set. You just might fit in :D

I remember days people would just post " :D :D :D " and that is all to get a count. I promise I won't give out the name of the responsible parties in doing so :D

The longer you hang around the more you will learn and the rank is just a bonus.

While I appreciate the comment, it was actually a shameless post pad, cleverly disguised as a genuine answer. I am, you see, getting close to making Captain, so I have to respond to everything on iboats, even if its a discussion of "jam v. jelly."

BTW, which do you prefer? ;)

PS: This entry is an example of both post padding and thread hijacking. But ... well .... maybe its not! Its instructional in nature, I tell you! Ha! Once again, an extra post cleverly disguised as a real answer. Is it real, or is it Memorex?????? :D
