Hi. I have a Merc 120. New starter and battery. The engine will not turn over. I put a crow bar onto the flywheel and it will not turn. Can a frozen or seized universal joint cause this. The engine has not turned over for a year. I assume I will have to remove the outdrive to prove whither its the engine or the outdrive. If it was stuck in gear could this sympton occur.
Help please.
Regards
Ian

Pull the drive to isolate it.
Was it winterized?
Is this your boat or a recent purchase?
Did it ever run?

did you leave your plugs out at all,and I think you need to pull your out drive and find a buddy with a special shaft to unsease this issue.

Ive pulled the plugs and sprayed in some WD40 releasing agent. I also filled the Stern drive reservoir with wd40 as I discovered it was dry i.e no oil, Gears and pinions appear to be ok. I have left the WD40 in for a couple of days. I think your right about pulling the outdrive. Only way to isolate the problem

Drive pulled and u joint roller bearing seized in housing. Have left overnight in wd40, will attempt to unscrew retainer tomorrow. Engine turns over ok. It looks like u joint bellows have a hole and water ingress has caused this problem.
Thanks guys for all you help, great forum
